SEAMEO RECFON Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO)
Regional Center for Food and Nutrition (RECFON)

SEAMEO RECFON is one of the 21 SEAMEO Centres in the Southeast Asian region and one of the 6 SEAMEO Centres in Indonesia. It is a unit under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education and Culture Republic of Indonesia, and located at campus of Universitas Indonesia. SEAMEO RECFON has a long history since its initial placement at Faculty of Medicine Universitas Indonesia. It was started back in 1970 as SEAMEO-Tropical Medicine National Centre for Regional Training and Research in Nutrition and Food Sciences. The history has marked the transformation of the Centre’s name into SEAMEO TROPMED (Tropical Medicine and Public Health) RCCN (Regional Centre for Community Nutrition) since 1992 that reflect the shift of the Centre’s program focus. Rapid development of nutrition science including the need on comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach to overcome the multi facets of the current nutritional problems is one of the main rationales of the changing name into SEAMEO RECFON on 27 January 2011.

Marking the 60th anniversary of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation, this year’s theme “Standing with teachers: 60 years of protecting the profession, advancing its status and shaping our futures” reaffirms that protecting teachers' rights and welfare is essential to societal progress.

At SEAMEO RECFON, we stand with educators as frontline champions of school health and nutrition literacy. Empowering our teachers builds a healthier, more resilient Southeast Asia.

As a concrete manifestation of our mandate as a SEAMEO Centre of Excellence in food and nutrition, SEAMEO RECFON hosted the launch of our 2026 Policy Briefs and Study Report during the 16th Governing Board Meeting side events.

SEAMEO RECFON has successfully wrapped up the 16th Governing Board Meeting (GBM) in Jakarta (Sept 7-10, 2026). Delegates from 11 member countries and key institutional partners gathered to finalize our strategic public health and nutrition roadmap for the 2026–2031 term.

✨ Memories from the 10th Anniversary celebration of Nutrition Goes to School (NGTS) in Jakarta! 🎉

Since 2016, a decade of NGTS has successfully trained over 3,500 teachers and reached more than 2,400 schools! 📈💚

The celebration on August 23, 2026, was filled with exciting activities. It featured interactive talk shows, the "Bekalku" student sharing session, an energetic flashmob, and inspiring showcases from schools across Indonesia, Lao PDR, and Malaysia. 🌏✨

As emphasized by Prof. Dr. dr. Rini Sekartini, Sp.A(K), Director of SEAMEO RECFON, "Children cannot learn optimally if their health and nutrition do not support them. Nutrition is not only for the present; it is an investment in the future." 🏫🌱

Moving forward, SEAMEO RECFON, Kemendikdasmen, and regional partners are committed to scaling up the NGTS model across Southeast Asia. 🚀
