Sam Poo Kong is the oldest of 5 temples included in the Sam Poo Kong complex which spans across 3.2 hectares. The building covers an area of 1,020 square meters and is influenced by both Chinese and Javanese 14th century architectural styles. Sam Poo Kong, juga dikenal sebagai Gedung Batu (Gedung Batu), adalah kuil Cina tertua di Semarang. Kuil tersebut dibangun untuk menghormati Laksamana Zheng He. Tempat bersejarah ini dipercaya sebagai tempat di mana Zheng He menetap.
Fondasi candi pertama kali dibangun oleh Laksamana Zheng He, penjelajah Muslim terkenal dari Dinasti Ming, yang memimpin armada Cina pada tujuh ekspedisi ke Jawa dan bagian lain dari Asia Tenggara dan Asia Barat di awal abad ke-15.

Sam Poo Kong, also known as Gedung Batu (the Stone Building), is the oldest Chinese temple in Semarang. It was built in honour of Admiral Cheng Ho. This historical place is believed as the place where Cheng Ho settled.
The temple foundations were first built by Admiral Cheng Ho, the famous Muslim explorer of the Ming dynasty, who led a Chinese fleet on seven expeditions to Java and other parts of Southeast and West Asia in the early 15th century.
