The ASEAN Key Figures 2024 provides a snapshot of key statistical indicators reflecting the region’s dynamic transformation and progress. As ASEAN undergoes rapid economic, social, and environmental shifts, these statistics serve as a reference for understanding the impact of national policies, regional cooperation, and global engagement. This publication is designed to provide policymakers, researchers, and stakeholders with a concise yet comprehensive overview of ASEAN’s achievements and the challenges that lie ahead.

The Fourteenth Session of the ASEAN Community Statistical System Committee (ACSS14), hosted by Lao Statistics Bureau, was held on 26 to 28 November 2024. The Session was chaired by Head of Lao Statistics Bureau, with Chief Statistician of Department of Statistics Malaysia as the Co-chairperson.

Since its establishment in 2011, the ACSS has always been committed to continue its efforts in providing relevant, timely and comparable ASEAN statistics in support of ASEAN integration monitoring and evidence-based policy and decision The ACSS has also been consistently strengthening its cooperation to enhance statistical capacities of ASEAN Member States (AMS) and the ASEAN Secretariat.

Aligned with the overall theme of Lao PDR’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2024 of “Enhancing Connectivity and Resilience”, and as part of our continuous commitment to further enhance regional statistical cooperation and respond proactively to emerging statistical requirements, we adopted the following theme for 2024 ACSS work programme:

“Strengthening Data Integration to Advance Regional Connectivity and Resilience”

Event Name: The 7th Meeting of Working Group on Sustainable Development Goals Indicators (WGSDGI7)

Event Date & Place: 31 July-1 August 2024 at the ASEAN Headquarters, Jakarta, Indonesia (hybrid)

The meeting discussed the enhancement of ASEAN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Indicators, the plan for producing the 2nd report of ASEAN SDG indicators in 2025, the result of mid-term review of WGSDGI work plan and the self-assessment of Code of Practice (CoP) section B and C, and partnership between ASEAN Member States (AMS) in the context of ASEAN-Help-ASEAN Framework (AHAF).

The 22nd Meeting of Working Group on Data Sharing, Analysis, Dissemination, and Communication of Statistics (WGDSA22)
ASEAN Secretariat, Jakarta, Indonesia, 24-25 July 2024

Dr. Ahmad Zafarullah Abdul Jalil, Director of the ASEAN Integration Monitoring Directorate at the ASEAN Secretariat, delivered the welcome remarks. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Fongsamout Khamvanvongsa, Director General of the Cabinet of Lao Statistics, who also delivered his remarks and officially opened the meeting.

The meeting discussed the implementation of the WGDSA multi-year plan 2016-2025, the planning for the multi-year plan 2026-2030, ASI-CT data submission, the ASEAN Help ASEAN Framework, country presentations on data security awareness, and updates on various activities. The meeting also appreciated the leadership of BPS-Statistics Indonesia as the chair of WGDSA 2022-2023 and welcomed the Lao Statistics Bureau as the WGDSA chair for 2024-2025.

Despite the challenges of arranging a hybrid meeting, all member states participated actively and provided valuable contributions.
