This year marks a significant milestone as ASEAN and Australia celebrate the 5th Anniversary of the ASEAN-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP).

On 26 May 2026, H.E Sarah in her intervention at the 16th Meeting of the ASEAN-Australia Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC) commended the excellent progress of the implementation of the ASEAN-Australia POA (2025-2029) and reiterated Malaysia’s commitment to deepening cooperation in delivering tangible outcomes and strengthen collective resilience in addressing emerging challenges.

The Meeting was preceded by the Panel Exhibition on the 5th Anniversary of the ASEAN-Australia CSP and Sausage Sizzle BBQ.

On 25 May 2026, H.E. Sarah Al Bakri Devadason attended the 20th ASEAN-Japan JCC Meeting at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta.

Discussions centered on the implementation of the Vision Statement on ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to regional stability, economic recovery & fostering robust people-to-people relations.

In her intervention, H.E. Sarah underscored Malaysia's position on the importance of narrowing development gaps & enhancing institutional capacity building within the region. Malaysia appreciates Japan's continuous backing of the IAI Attachment Programme.

On 23 May 2026, H.E. Sarah Al Bakri Devadason attended the opening ceremony of the ASEAN-India Bazaar, organised by the Indian Mission to ASEAN.

This highly anticipated annual event features booths from ASEAN Member States and various vendors, offering visitors a wide array of goods, including apparel, home decor, souvenirs & food. This year marks the 3rd successful year of the bazaar.

On 19 May 2026, H.E. Sarah attended the Interface between the Committee of Permanent Representatives to ASEAN and the UN Delegation at the ASEAN Secretariat. The Interface discussed efforts to strengthen the ASEAN-UN Comprehensive Partnership, as well as regional and international issues of common concern.

Malaysia reaffirmed its support for multilateralism, international law, peace and security, as well as enhanced ASEAN-UN cooperation in addressing global challenges and advancing the implementation of the ASEAN-UN Plan of Action 2026–2030.

On 11 May 2026, H.E Sarah received an introductory call from H.E Lee Chul, the new Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to ASEAN.

H.E Sarah congratulated and welcomed him to ASEAN. During the call, H.E Lee reaffirmed the ROK’s strong commitment to strengthening relations with ASEAN and looked forward to working with Malaysia and other ASEAN Member States to advance the ASEAN-ROK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The ROK officially became a Comprehensive Strategic Partner of ASEAN in 2024.
