Selamat Hari Sumpah Pemuda!

How can technology, literacy, and character shape the future of language learning?

SEAMEO QITEP in Language (SEAQIL) organised the Seventeenth Annual International Symposium of Foreign Language Learning (the 17th AISOFOLL) in a hybrid format in Jakarta on 7 October 2026.

Under the theme “Shaping Future Generations: Strengthening Technology-Enhanced Language Teaching on Literacy and Character Development”, the symposium brought together teachers, education personnel, practitioners, and researchers to share research results, insights, and teaching practices on three key areas: technology, literacy, and character development in language education.

The symposium featured six keynote speakers: Dr Amin Davoodi (University of Wyoming, United States of America), Assist Prof. Aphiwit Liang-Itsara, PhD (Mahidol University, Thailand), Assoc. Prof. Ju Seong Lee (The Education University of Hong Kong, China), Prof. Dr Ni Komang Arie Suwastini (Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha, Indonesia), Assoc. Prof. Suzanne Choo (National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore), and Dr Vinh To (University of Tasmania, Australia). Their contributions highlighted diverse perspectives on technology, literacy, and character development in language teaching and learning.

A special session titled “Unlocking Insights into Multilingual Education, Literacy, and English Teaching” marked the launch of three publications, the Southeast Asian Roadmap on Multilingual Education (SEA-MLE Roadmap) and two policy briefs on English language teaching and literacy.
