Tomorrow, Friday June 19th, is National Day of Action – Intoxicated Driving.
If you take risks, then you are risking your life and the lives of all other road users. Please never drive under the influence of drink or drugs. The results of drink or drug driving and/or speed can be utterly devastating. One poor decision could have life changing consequences for you and others.
We will be conducting high visibility patrols and checkpoints and we appeal to all road users to please be sensible if you plan on having a drink or two and make arrangements to get a lift home, have a designated driver or get a taxi.
Help keep our roads safe & never ever drink or drug drive.

Gardaí Harkin and Calvey of our Meath South Community Engagement Team were delighted to join the pupils from the ASD classes of Ratoath Junior National School on one of their many end of year outings.
The pupils were delighted to meet Oakley and Willow, the guide dogs from the Navan Branch of the Irish Guide Dogs Association, who visited all of the classes in Ratoath Junior National School. This was an important opportunity for pupils to learn about the important work being carried out by guide dogs and their trainers.
A special thank you to Ms. Ward for teaching us how to communicate using an AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) device. It was a valuable learning opportunity for us.

Gardaí from Meath South Community Engagement Unit seized 4 E Scooters this weekend.
We want to take this opportunity, again, to remind everyone about the laws in place regarding the use of electric scooters and e-bikes.
E-scooter users must;
🛴 ️Be 16 years or over
🛴 Obey a speed limit of 20km/h
🛴 Drive on the left - allowed only in cycle lanes or bus lanes and on regional or national roads
🛴 ️Have lights, a bell or audible warning device, reflectors, brakes, and the scooter must be in a roadworthy condition
🛴 ️Follow the same rules of the road that apply to cyclists
🛴 ️Obey signals given by a Garda or School Warden.
E-scooters users must NOT;
🛴 ️Use footpaths or pedestrianised areas
🛴 ️Hold or use a mobile telephone
🛴 ️Have a seat on their e-scooter
🛴 ️Carry passengers or goods
🛴 Use the scooter while intoxicated
E-scooters must NOT;
🛴 ️Exceed the maximum design speed of 20 km/h
🛴 ️Exceed the maximum unladen weight of 25kg
🛴 Exceed the maximum power output of 400W
👮♂️E-scooters may only be used if they comply with road traffic legislation. Devices that exceed the limits referred to above or are used unlawfully can be seized.
While protective equipment is not compulsory, it is strongly recommended.
Parents are asked to ensure that any e-scooter purchased or used by a young person complies with the law.
These scooters are not toys - they are mechanically propelled vehicles and carry real safety risks.
👮♂️Our focus is prevention. Let's work together to reduce serious and fatal road collisions.

Congratulations to the Beach Park Residents Association in Laytown who installed a new solar powered Automated External Defibrillator (AED) at Laytown Garda Station for the benefit of the entire community.
This project was made possible through collaboration with the Beach Park Residents Association, East Meath Defibrillator Unit and local Gardaí.
The residents association recognised the importance of having quick access to life saving equipment in the event of an emergency.
This is a great example of what can be achieved in our communities when we work together. Making our communities safer for everyone.
Congratulations again to everyone involved in this initiative.
