🏳️‍🌈 Meath Says No To Hate
DEMONSTRATE
📍Páirc Tailteann, at
⏰ 12:30pm Saturday
📆 May 20th

To mark International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia the people of Meath and the Navan United Rainbow Brigade are hosting a demonstration outside the entrance to Páirc Tailteann, at 12:30pm Saturday May 20th to make a stand against hatred in all its forms in our community.

The Marriage Equality act and the Repeal the eighth campaign were monumental steps towards making Ireland a loving and welcoming place for all who live here, but there is still much progress to be made.

75% of LGBTQ people in Ireland have experienced verbal abuse and harassment on account of their identity with over one fifth having experienced physical violence against them just because of who they are. These numbers are higher among specific groups, with one third of gay men experiencing physical violence because of who they love.

Transgender Europe recently found that Ireland ranks bottom of the EU member states for trans healthcare. Trans people seeking life saving gender affirming care in Ireland could be left waiting up to 10 years before they receive the healthcare they need. Conversion therapy is a barbaric practice which attempts to forcibly change a person’s sexual or gender identity and has been called a form of torture by the United Nations Human Rights Council. And it is still legal in Ireland.

There has been a sharp rise in anti-LGBTQ rhetoric coming from the far right in recent years with high profile figures such as JK Rowling helping to normalise this hatred.

That is why we are asking you to bring your flags, friends and family down to Páirc Tailteann, this Saturday May 20th at 12:30pm to show people that hatred of any kind will not be accepted in Navan, in Meath, or anywhere else in Ireland.

👮BUT THE GARDAI DO HELP EVICTIONS!

The Irish Independent are upset because Eoin O Broin posted an imagined picture of modern day Gardai assisting an eviction.

But landlords do conduct illegal evictions. They arrive at homes of tenants, gather up their belongings and put them out on the street. They then change locks.

When a tenant rings the Gardai to complain they are often told that they do not get involved in such matters.

But when people ban together to resist evictions, the Gardai appear and can use the Public Order Act to threaten people with arrest.

So, no, Eoin O Broin should not apologise. Keep
