🌺🌼Tomorrow is Midsummer’s Eve in Sweden, a major holiday and one of the longest days of the year – over 18 hours in Stockholm, while in northen Sweden, the sun doesn’t set!

We celebrate by dancing around a maypole and singing traditional songs – even one about little frogs 🐸 – with flower wreaths in our hair. The day also features a tasty dinner of pickled herring, new potatoes, sour cream, and strawberry cake for dessert.

These words come from Mr. Naser, known as ‘Abu Mohammad,’ who lives in the town of Duma near Nablus. He runs a livestock business rooted in family traditions and years of experience, supplying meat to the local community through trusted relationships with butchers despite ongoing challenges, including repeated attacks on his land and resources.

Tamweeli, implemented by the Middle East Investment Initiative with support from the Swedish Government, helps Palestinian MSMEs access finance. Through tailored business advisory services, financial literacy training, and a digital matchmaking platform connecting businesses with lenders, the programme helps entrepreneurs unlock opportunities and grow their businesses.

On 4 June 2026, our Consul General joined the EU Heads of Mission retreat, co-organised by the Cyprus EU Presidency.

The programme featured a visit to Aida Refugee Camp in the West Bank and discussions at the Holy Monastery of the Shepherds in Beit Sahour.

Last Saturday, the Consul General of Sweden in Jerusalem, Ms. Sophie Becker, participated together with fellow Heads of Mission in the Marian Festival “With Mary… We Remain in Hope” in the village of Taybeh.
Organized by the Latin Parish and the people of Taybeh, the event brought the community together in a spirit of faith, hope.

On Saturday, the SIRA school in Jericho celebrated the class of 2026 graduates.

The SIRA School, run by the Swedish International Relief Association, plays an important role in supporting children with learning difficulties through tailored education and continuous encouragement.

The Consul General Sophie Becker participated in the ceremony. “It was inspiring to witness the strong commitment of the school’s team, whose dedication and care create a supportive environment where every child is given the opportunity to grow and succeed”, she said.
