The NSS Unit-I of Asansol Girls’ College organised a programme entitled “Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat” on 16 October 2026 at the college premises. The programme aimed to raise awareness among NSS volunteers about the harmful effects of drug abuse and to promote a healthy lifestyle through yoga, physical exercise, and self-defence training.
The programme commenced with an insightful address by the guest, Mr. Amar Singh, who highlighted the adverse effects of drug addiction on individuals, families, and society. He also emphasised the importance of yoga, self-defence, and regular physical exercise in maintaining physical and mental well-being.
The yoga and physical exercise sessions were conducted by Mr. Arvind Gupta, who guided the NSS volunteers through various activities aimed at improving physical fitness, discipline, and overall health. Subsequently, Mr. Bibhas De, a self-defence trainer, demonstrated and taught various self-defence techniques to the volunteers to enhance their confidence, awareness, and ability to protect themselves.
Dr. Monika Saha, Professor of Geography, and Dr. Chandan Bandyopadhyay, Professor of Economics, also delivered valuable speeches on the benefits of yoga and physical exercise, the harmful consequences of drug abuse, and the significant role of NSS volunteers in spreading awareness about substance abuse and encouraging young people to lead a healthy, drug-free life.
At the conclusion of the programme, all the NSS volunteers took a pledge to support the vision of a drug-free nation and to contribute actively towards building a healthy and responsible youth community.
The programme was organised in the spirit of the Government of India’s initiative to build a healthy, aware, and drug-free youth community as part of the vision of Viksit Bharat. By combining awareness sessions with practical training in yoga, physical exercise, and self-defence, the programme encouraged the volunteers to adopt healthy habits and become ambassadors of a drug-free society.
The programme concluded with a renewed commitment from the NSS volunteers to spread awareness about the dangers of substance abuse and actively contribute to the national mission of Nasha Mukt Bharat.
