CDD India
CDD India is a not-for-profit organization, that innovates, demonstrates and disseminates decentralization
Our mission is to innovate, demonstrate and disseminate decentralized nature-based solutions for the conservation, collection, treatment and reuse of water resources and management of sanitation facilities. The key services include:
* Technical Solutions
* Capacity Building
* Applied Research
* Knowledge Publications & Dissemination
* Laboratory
Hon’ble Minister for Municipal Administration, Govt. of Karnataka, Mr. Rahim Khan visited the Devanahalli FSTP today. 🙌
He appreciated CDD India’s support in the construction of the plant and our training of plant staff to maintain high O&M standards—because infrastructure works best when operations are strong.
🌿 A Big Step for Urban Resilience in Varanasi! 🌿
We’re excited to mark the stone laying of a 100 KLD Nature-Based Wastewater Treatment System in the Kanshi Ram Garib Aawas Yojana colony — a major move towards cleaner water and healthier communities.
This pilot will treat wastewater from 1,000 households, reuse the treated water to green a community park, and serve as a scalable model for dense urban settlements. Once operational, it will benefit ~6,000 residents and positively impact nearly 15,000 people.
🤝 Implemented by CDD India with the support of Kotak Mahindra Bank, this initiative strengthens climate-resilient sanitation in underserved areas.
Grateful to the community and leaders who led the ceremony:
✨ Mr. Ashok Kumar Tiwari
✨ Mr. Himanshu Nagpal
✨ Mr. Baliram Kannujiya
Together, we’re shaping sustainable, nature-positive cities. 💧🌏
🌿 Building Rural Sanitation, One Innovation at a Time!
CDD India had the honour of hosting Smt. Aishwarya Singh, Mission Director – SBM-G, DDWS, at our Faecal Sludge Treatment Plants (FSTPs) in Bengaluru.
From Devanahalli’s nature-based drying beds to Rajankunte’s rural model and Arkere’s modular system, each site reflects how design, innovation, and simplicity can transform rural sanitation.
Grateful for her insights and encouragement to involve children as future sanitation ambassadors! 💧
🌊 Pioneering Climate-Resilient Sanitation for Coastal India 🌿☀️
Proud to share a milestone that redefines what climate-smart sanitation can look like for India’s coastal towns! 💧
At CDD India, we’ve re-engineered the 3 KLD Faecal Sludge Treatment Plant (FSTP) in Guhaghar, Ratnagiri (Maharashtra) — transforming it into a solar-powered, carbon-neutral system designed for resilience.
🔹 50% faster sludge drying
🔹 Pathogen-free reuse as organic soil conditioner
🔹 100% solar-powered operations
🔹 Waste-to-resource circular economy model
This first-of-its-kind innovation — with a Solar Sludge Drying Greenhouse and Solar Pasteurization Unit — proves how engineering, ecology, and collaboration can converge to meet climate challenges head-on.
Huge thanks to our partners , , and Guhaghar Municipality, and to our incredible CDD India team for making this vision real. 🙏
💬 Because climate resilience isn’t just built — it’s engineered through collaboration.

Honoring sanitation workers this
Today, we recognize the incredible efforts of municipal sanitation workers, or pourakarmikas, who play an indispensable role in maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene of our cities. From doorstep waste collection to ensuring proper disposal practices, their work forms the backbone of solid waste management.
At CDD India, we understand that sanitation is a community effort. As we work towards sustainable water and sanitation solutions, we also want to celebrate and support those who are on the frontlines of these efforts every day—our pourakarmikas.
Let’s take a moment to express our gratitude for their dedication and resilience in the face of many challenges. Together, we can advocate for better working conditions and the recognition they deserve.

Proper education on Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) is essential for sanitation and the health and well-being of young girls. On August 22, 2024, CDD India held MHM sessions in Malavalli, Karnataka, where over 160 young girls and teachers from Rotary School and Mahadeshwara School participated. These sessions play a vital role in equipping girls with the knowledge and resources they need to manage menstruation safely and hygienically. By introducing sustainable menstrual products like cloth pads and menstrual cups, we are promoting healthier practices that can have lasting benefits for their overall health.

Building Resilience for Coastal Communities: Capacity Building Session in Bangalore 🌊
We’re excited to announce an impactful capacity-building session hosted by CDD India on August 7th and 8th, 2024, focusing on enhancing climate-resilient coastal water and sanitation infrastructure. This vital project, supported by HSBC, brought together Urban Local Body (ULB) officials from Goa and Karnataka to explore innovative strategies for building sustainable water and sanitation infrastructure in our coastal regions.
📍 Location: CDD India Office, Bangalore
Why This Matters:
Coastal areas are among the most vulnerable to climate change’s impacts, including rising sea levels and extreme weather events. This session was designed to equip ULB officials with the knowledge and tools to develop and implement resilient water and sanitation systems that can withstand these challenges.
This two-day workshop included a classroom interactive session and an exposure visit to some of CDD India’s successful case projects in Bangalore. It is a critical step towards safeguarding our coastal regions and ensuring sustainable development. The workshop was done in collaboration with IIT- -B and India Sanitation Coalition. It was a day of learning, collaboration, and action!
