Teach For India - SGV School, Bengaluru

The Teachers of underprivileged Private schools are having a tough time, This category of schools operate on low budget since the parents of the kids work in professions like Auto Drivers, House help, Drivers, Security Guards, Operators, Labours, Mechanics, petty business etc.. Money inflow to school is generally uneven, Larger part of the fees reaches school just before final exams due to financial condition of parents, and some money does not come at all. But this time larger part of fees did not come to school since Final exams were called off due to Covid-19 and soon after there was a lock down, as a consequence the Teachers did not get salaries for the last 3 months, coming months would not be very different as schools are not going to reopen soon. There is a hope for the money to flow-in if they start Online Classes since some parents have kind of jobs which allows them to pay fees in this situation too. There are few Blockers for Online teaching though, first being Smartphone unavailability with most of the kids and Secondly money to buy internet data for online teaching. I was wondering if any corporate can help with funds and a platform for School to begin classes for at least 8th , 9th & 10th Graders so that money starts circulating and teachers can start getting some money.

Three classes, where myself, George & Chitra started our journey in TFI has come a long way, It was incredible to see the knowledge growth of the kids while maintaining the same innocence. Thanks to Oishanee, Arjun and Gaurav who have been driving the movement and giving all kind of exposure to the kids. The growth is not limited just to these classrooms but to the entire School. I was taken on Science lab tour by two little angels, Science lab was something we wanted to always do. Great Job guys, you are working for 500+ kids in the school and not limited to 100 kids in your classrooms.

What started out as a start-of -the week mini lesson on the importance of Women's day turned out be an all out celebration of Women's week.. Conversations on Women's movements, gender equality, voting rights ending with kids putting their ideas into posters..And we had sooooo much fun:D.. Also finally got to capture the munchkins at work..Definitly moments to cherish..

A start to a series of expert talks for the kids that would feature experts from different walks of life. We were lucky to have with us the founder of the environment conservation and education non profit Wish Foundation, Sarbani Nag who is also a wildlife expert as our first guest. The session was immensely interactive and knowledge driven. The kids had oodles of fun and they also learned the concept of scientific names through a Origami session.

They are not being able to participate in this years football tournament for Just for Kicks due to lack of funds and equipments. These youngsters were the champions from last year.
