This week we bring back our recurring weekly series, . Where we introduce you to the tools from our 10-year archive.

We bring into focus our newest release - a digital facilitated multiplayer game - “Solemnly Resolve”, which for the past few weeks has been making the rounds in our virtual game sessions and public events like at the Bangalore International Centre’s Hub’ba last month.

The game unpacks the complexities behind the principles that feature in the of . The Tool initiates an open discourse around how we comprehend the different principles and rights that embody the abstract idea that is freedom. Bringing to life and how difficult it can be to actualised this idea of freedom that we envision for our future through actions in daily situations of conflict.

The players are divided into four teams, each playing as characters from different backgrounds, with their own social positions and motivations. These characters take on society as handed as fate intended, and actively navigate, rethink and collaborate to shape its future.

Throughout the game, the state of the society is represented using four governing pillars of Government Stability, Transparency & Accountability, Economic Growth, and Public Support.

At the very end, the players are handed the prestigious document of the Preamble that is representative of the outcome of the actions taken throughout the game.

To find out about more such tools in our Policy Tool Box, visit our website here - https://fieldsofview.in, or using the link given in our bio.

Over the two previous weekends, we played many online game sessions, including that of our newest addition to Fields of View's archive, Solemnly Resolve.

Can you choose between religious freedoms and free speech? Are processes an impediment to economic growth? Whose voices are heard when imagining India’s future? The game elicited discussion on many such questions, and the conversation soon panned out to a broader debate on the values that guide us, particularly the to the and its relevance.

People expressed opinions around how one should perceive and adopt the principles and values laid down in the , keeping in mind its qualitative, contextual and malleable nature.

We look forward to hosting more such sessions both physically and virtually, to have the opportunity to share our work and house more such open conversations.

We want to thank platform for making facilitation more versatile and allowing us to hold parallel conversations in the same digital space.

Our Story

It was 2010. While working on infrastructure policy, we encountered multiple issues in traditional approaches to policy design.

Can people get involved in planning their city — how can we deepen their participation? How can policymakers explore implications of their decisions without implementing them, thereby save time, cost, and effort? How can different agencies examine if we are adequately prepared for emergencies?

The answers to these questions is yes. But there was a gap.

People can get involved in planning their city if there is a tool that facilitates their participation. Policymakers can explore implications of their decisions, if there is a tool that lets them explore alternatives and debate options. We can examine whether we are prepared for emergencies if we have a tool that can test existing protocols and measures, and understand where they need strengthening.
