We work to improve the health, education and livelihoods of disadvantaged women and children in rura
We started out as a group of health professionals conducting research into women’s health and children’s health and nutrition in Karnakapura Taluk, a rural community outside of Bangalore. Our research gave us insights into the problems faced by poor and marginalised people in Kanakapura Taluk. We have seen and documented the terrible conditions faced by women and children and the poor quality of h
ealth and social services that they receive. We were touched by their plight and felt compelled to take action…
And we did...
We have set up a range of innovative initiatives that promote individual and community involvement in bringing about positive change. These include a Pre-school programme which ensures that local children grow up healthy and get the best possible start to life, women’s Income Generation Groups which provide livelihoods for marginalised women and empower them both economically and socially, loans for local women to purchase livestock so that they can have livelihoods, scholarships for local students from marginalised backgrouds to go to college. Our vision is that through our work the people of Karnakapura Taluk will acquire the skills and self-confidence required to help themselves and live healthier and happier lives.
