Exam time::::

We are studying and studying

Suppressing all hunger and thirst

Sleep, what is it? We don’t know

The stress wall is ready to burst

Heart pounding, head in hands, eyes full of tears

Miserable, spiritless victims of fear

In the morning, minds may be bluntly clear

So we have to sacrifice entertainment so dear

Percentages, percentiles and cut offs

Finals, entrances, admissions

Keeping our fingers crossed all the time

Faces appear sickly, pale and shrunken

By this examination system, we are vexed

Can’t there be learning for fun, without being stressed?

Let’s hope our grievances are addressed

And exams are history for the time to come next

Rhyme Time
Small wonder::::

You are thinking of the world

And rejoicing with glee,

While I’m enduring the hardships of life.

Will you spare a thought for me?

No one’s there to hear my plea,

The plea of a child exploited and dispossessed.

I too have a heart that craves for love

and longs for affection and happiness.

To fill my belly, I toil day and night,

I’ve to forsake my childhood joys.

Hazardous jobs demand playing with life

Instead of friends and toys.

I’m never cared for but treated with contempt,

My rights are disregarded outrageously.

With an unpleasant present and ominous future,

I’m treated with hatred and brutality.

I too want to play, study and have my dreams.

I’ve taken a bold stance and bravely stood

To voice my emotions, to seek your concern,

To make you hear the call of childhood.

Gazing at the sky with a risen heartbeat

still thanking God that we did meet.

Starry sky during the day was blue

Tonight I just want to write for you.

Skies are solemn, so is my poem

Only you can feel what my heart is showin’.

I know it’s not only in my imagination dear

Though you don’t speak verbally but your gestures make many things clear.

Your deep eyes, your beautiful hair whenever I get a chance I do stare.

If you too feel something and I’m true

you’ll know by now that it’s written only for you.

RHYME TIME
Call of the earth:::

You have left me ailing and crying.

All my natural resources are dying.

You are threatening nature,

Mind you, this will ruin your future.

All around there are trees you have lopped,

This cruel practice needs to be stopped.

Vegetation is ruined, thanks to pollution,

To check this, find some solution.

You are slaughtering animals for taste and trade,

This reckless poaching will derail your fate.

Are your really human?

These acts of cruelty prove you ‘inhuman’.

If you continue harming me, there’ll come a day,

When you will realise the error of your ways.

Of your follies, will repent you all,

Wake up! Your mother Earth gives you a call.

World peace:::

Fights and wars are everywhere,

Everyone’s heart is filled with fear.

Over the world, gloom casts its spell,

Let’s strive to make this land heaven, not hell.

The joy is suppressed by war and terrorism,

This menace has become a major problem.

It needs to be removed from stem to stern,

As it renders people homeless orphaning millions.

All fear the worst by this violence so brutal,

Aimed at causing terror and panic among people.

Nations are isolated by the clash of arms,

Lack of integrity entails only pain and harm.

The basis of a healthy relationship among all nations,

Are the virtues of humanity, understanding and cooperation.

The nations brought into fold need to realise,

That we are enriched through cultural ties.

Forgetting vengeance, jealousies and hate,

Will definitely change the world’s fate.

The world will be blithesome and everyone will beam,

Let’s bring back the lost joy by fulfilling this dream.

RHYME TIME
Boon of trees:::

Trees are the greatest natural boon,

But they will disappear soon.

They have innumerable uses,

They are being cut because of these causes.

Trees provide us with food,

And shelter by giving wood.

Trees protect us from rain and storm,

Where else would sit travellers tired and worn

Under their shade, men can rest,

On its branches birds build many a nest.

Their biggest use is they purify air,

They also give us fruits like apple, mango and pear.

Many trees provide us with medicines,

But still wood is being cut and carried in tons.

Trees are being chopped,

This mindless lopping needs to be stopped.

Trees are help in keeping the weather cool,

Those who cut trees are fools.

Trees give us medicines, flowers and wood,

Should we let them disappear for good?

We need to plant more and more trees,

Only then we can live with ease.

Where there are so many uses of trees,

Their continuous cutting should cease

It is the duty of the whole nation,

To protect trees for our future generation

Be positive:::

Joys and sorrows are life’s part

These often make one lose one’s heart

But remember both of them go together

And if you are bold, you will never wither

If the present is full of sorrow

Be happy that joy will accompany tomorrow

Some worry about future if today is white

And change their happy bright life into night

By sharing your feelings all the sorrows will divide

And all around there will be joy multiplied

Sorrows in life are just transient

To face them, we must be confident

If we change our approach

Welcome new year, every heart greets you with pleasure

Hoping the rays of your sun may take the darkness out of our lives

Fill our hearts with love

Enlighten us with the spirit of brotherhood

Rain joy and cheer, rain harmony and peace

Make everyone remain in the pink

Bloodshed, disease and destruction

May no eye ever see again

As you arrive, may the tough times take leave

Let not a single heart grieve

We, the sons of Mother Earth, can no more see her ailing

Zeal has now replaced fear in our heart

We vow to change our dark destiny

As we take a leap forward

Times of terror::::

With hearts full of fear, we hide in darkness
Surrounded by clouds of terror

Can’t say if we’ll live the next moment
With shadows of death playing with our emotions

Uneasy silence and deadly explosions are taking turns
They kill us every moment

Terror detains our hearts urging us to move out of this inhuman world

But for how long shall we tolerate this merciless destruction

We need to bring this wait to an end
Before terrorism kills us all, let us all kill terrorism

To bring the light of hope in this dreary darkness

To swing the tide in our favour
