The institute aims at exploring the avenues for management of abiotic stresses affecting the very sustainability of national food production systems.

NIASM, an unique institute of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), was established in 2009 at Malegaon Khurd, Baramati. It specifically addresses the aberration induced stresses due to atmospheric, water and edaphic factors, which are estimated to cause 50 per cent losses in crop productivity. Since these stresses are predicted to amplify due to climate change and land degradation, the

On , we celebrate Mrs. Sangita Jagtap from Jalgaon Supe, Baramati. Through a 1,000 m² climate-resilient fodder bank developed by ICAR-NIASM with NABARD Pune support, her family transformed fodder scarcity into dairy prosperity.

Healthier animals, improved milk quality, reduced feed costs, and increased income demonstrate that sustainable dairy farming begins with sustainable fodder systems.

Beyond fodder security, the silvipasture model comprising Lucerne, Marvel grass, and Leucaena helps reduce soil erosion, improves soil fertility, and enriches the soil naturally through nitrogen-fixing legumes, thereby reducing dependence on chemical fertilizers. The perennial vegetation cover also enhances climate resilience in drought-prone regions.

This is the true spirit of —saving our fields through healthy soils, sustainable farming practices, and resilient livelihoods.
