How did humans discovered first Gold?
Imagine walking beside an ancient river and spotting a yellow glint among ordinary stones. Could that have been one of humanity’s first encounters with gold?
Gold occurs naturally, sometimes as visible nuggets or tiny flakes in river sediments. People could notice its unusual color and lasting shine long before they understood metals scientifically. We cannot identify the first person who found it, but archaeological discoveries show that gold was being shaped into ornaments thousands of years ago. The Varna cemetery in present-day Bulgaria contains one of the world’s earliest major collections of gold artifacts, dating to the fifth millennium BCE.
