Morning Tea With My Friends

Dear Ones -

I've been finding great solace recently in the poet Mark Nepo's new book THE WAY UNDER THE WAY — which is an elegant and moving collection of several decades of his work.

These words in particular, today, have reached me right where I live.

I can't recommend Mark's book highly enough, and I can also assure you, as somebody who knows him as a friend, that his heart is every bit as warm and real in person as it is on the page.

BERLINALE GOES GLOBAL!
Let's start in Cuba with a short film from 1967 which, as a good beginning for our "Facebook Berlinale", thematizes movies and cinema:
"The cinema as a world of illusion and as a means toward enlightenment: Por Primera Vez is a testament to Cuba’s 'audiovisual alphabetization' in the 1960s. We see the first screening of a mobile cinema in a remote mountain village, the film is Chaplin’s Modern Times."
