Induction Training Programme for Odisha Tourism Service (OTS) Cadre Officers

The Department of Tourism, Government of Odisha, has initiated a comprehensive Induction Training Programme for newly recruited Odisha Tourism Service (OTS) Cadre Officers. The programme is being conducted by the Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management (IITTM), Bhubaneswar, under the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. This important capacity-building initiative aims to equip officers with the knowledge, skills, and professional competencies required to effectively contribute to the growth and promotion of Odisha’s tourism sector.

The Induction Training Programme was jointly organized by the Department of Tourism, Government of Odisha, and IITTM, Bhubaneswar. The programme was inaugurated on 1 June 2026 at 11:00 AM by Shri Saroja Kumar Swain, Additional Secretary to Government, Department of Tourism, Government of Odisha. The inaugural session was graced by Shri Babulal Patra, Financial Advisor-cum-Additional Secretary to Government, and Shri Binod Kumar Jena, Joint Secretary to Government, Department of Tourism, along with other senior officers of the Department of Tourism, Government of Odisha.

The welcome address and an overview of the training programme were delivered by Prof. Adyasha Das, Chairperson (Training), IITTM. Prof. (Dr.) Md. Sabir Hussain, Nodal Officer and Centre Head, IITTM Bhubaneswar, highlighted the objectives and significance of the induction training programme. The vote of thanks was proposed by Mrs. Sareeta Pradhan, Co-Coordinator of the programme.

The induction training programme is designed for a total duration of six months. In the first phase, the programme will be conducted for three months during the current year, while the remaining three months will be completed in the following year.

The training programme aims to familiarize officers with tourism policies, government schemes, regulatory frameworks, and sustainable tourism practices, enabling them to effectively translate policy objectives into meaningful action on the ground. Through interactive classroom sessions, field visits, case studies, and expert interactions, participants gain practical insights into destination management, tourism promotion, and stakeholder engagement.

Special emphasis is being placed on strengthening managerial and administrative capabilities, fostering leadership qualities, and enhancing confidence in decision-making and public engagement. The programme also introduces officers to contemporary digital tools, data-driven tourism planning, social media marketing, e-governance applications, and emerging global tourism trends. These components are intended to prepare officers to effectively navigate the rapidly evolving tourism landscape and contribute to the sustainable development and promotion of tourism in Odisha.
The programme reflects the commitment of the Department of Tourism, Government of Odisha, towards developing a competent and professional workforce capable of driving the state's tourism sector to greater heights.

The 12-day Certificate Course for Eco-Trainers, organized jointly by the Department of Forest, Environment & Climate Change, Government of Odisha, and conducted by the Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management (IITTM), Bhubaneswar, at Godibari Nature Camp under the Chandaka Wildlife Division, concluded successfully with a valedictory session attended by distinguished guests and participants.

The closing ceremony was graced by Mr. Vivek Kumar, IFS, Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCF), Eco-Tourism. The programme was also attended by Prof. Adyasha Das, Chairperson (Training), IITTM Bhubaneswar; Dr. Subhashree Dash, Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF), Eco-Tourism; Mrs. Madhusmita Dash, Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF), Chandaka Wildlife Division; and Dr. Swajan Shriyan, Coordinator of the training programme.

The twelve-day programme provided participants with extensive exposure to various aspects of eco-tourism, wildlife conservation, sustainable tourism practices, nature interpretation, community engagement, and responsible tourism management. Through a combination of classroom sessions, field visits, practical exercises, and interactive discussions, the course offered a comprehensive and enriching learning experience.

Participants expressed their appreciation for the programme, stating that it had significantly enhanced their knowledge, skills, and understanding of eco-tourism and would be highly beneficial in their future professional endeavors. They described the training as informative, insightful, and enriching, contributing substantially to their personal and professional development.

The successful completion of the Certificate Course marks an important step towards strengthening the capacity of Eco-Trainers and promoting sustainable eco-tourism initiatives across Odisha.

A total of 30 trainers joined this special programme organized by the Department of Forest, Environment & Climate Change, Govt. of Odisha and conducted by IITTM Bhubaneswar.

The Executive Development Programme at Similipal National Park, jointly organized by the Department of Forest, Environment and Climate Change, Government of Odisha and conducted by the Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management (IITTM), Bhubaneswar was successfully conducted during 29th April to 1st May 2026. While the Department led training inputs in conservation and ecological governance, IITTM contributed its expertise in eco-tourism training and sustainable destination management. Shri Vivek Kumar, IFS, DCF, Ecotourism, Prashant Patel,IFS, DFO, Similipal North, Dr.Subhashree Dash, ACF, ET, Dr.Md.S.Hussain & Dr.Adyasha Das were present in the inaugural function held at Gurguria Nature Camp at Similipal. 21 ACF's and Divisional Forest Officers participated & successfully completed the programme.
