*SFI demands immediate repeal of NExT examination 2023*
Date: 03/07/2023
Recently the NMC conducted a webinar regarding the implementation of NExT examination, which is supposed to substitute the NEET- PG exam.
NExT examination for the first time will be conducted in the 2023-24 session and the batch of 2019 are the very first batch to face the examination. When this announcement was made these students had started their studies keeping in mind the university conducted examination, which is just few months away. This decision has caught them by surprise, and the sudden change in pattern has put their preparation in limbo as they were preparing for an examination having a similar pattern as the ones they have faced earlier and these students are staring at the uncertainty associated with the examination. With the introduction of NExT examination students now have to face multiple choice questions exams only for passing the final professional examination and to begin internship. Moreover the marks attained in this exam will also be decisive for getting post graduation seats, which has put more burden upon the students of batch 2019 & onwards.
The NMC has informed that it will be conducting a mock test in the month of July 2023 itself. The students willing to appear in the mock test will be charged Rs.2000 which will add to the stress of the already burdened students. Moreover those who are participating in the mock test have not been given ample time for the required preparation.
As many of the concerns raised by the students remain unanswered by NMC and also considering the fact that the batches currently pursuing MBBS have already started their preparation keeping the old pattern of examination in mind, relaxation must be given for these batches.
Most importantly clarity has to be provided about the examination above mentioned, so that today's students and future health care providers don't have to face difficulties and uncertain future.
So we demand the following-
1. Proper curriculum change i.e proper accumulation of clinical subjects in final year.
2. Ensure improvement in infrastructure and proper faculty training in every medical college. Take proper measures so that students from other medical colleges get a level playing field while competing with students of premier medical colleges like AIIMS & JIPMER. Till then defer the roll out of this examination.
3) In case any examination is taken ensure accessibility for students. This should be done by-
a) No or minimal entry fees for appearing in examinations.
b) Providing adequate examination centres.
4) Also in the proposed mock test to be conducted before NExT examination, students are being charged Rs.2000 for which we demand that no charge should be taken.
5) In the proposed mock test no examination centre has been allocated in the city of Agartala despite this city having 2 medical colleges at present.
