AIDSO calls for March to Jantar Mantar against SIR on 10th October
In a press statement, Sourav Ghosh, President and Shibasis Praharaj, General Secretary of AIDSO Central Council said:
“The country stands at a critical juncture of crisis and possibility. While the ruling class and the ruling party are making the basic necessities of life increasingly inaccessible to ordinary people, they are also systematically undermining democratic and civil rights.
Even the right to vote, long projected as the only expression of democracy by the capitalist establishment and its political agents, is under attack today. The ruling regime has become so authoritarian that it is unable to safeguard even this limited democratic right. The very institution entrusted with protecting the people's franchise has failed to uphold democratic norms within its own functioning.
Across the country, protests are growing against the authoritarian SIR process and the role played by CEC Gyanesh Kumar under the patronage of Narendra Modi and Amit Shah. In response to the disenfranchisement of nearly 13 crores of people, largely from minority and marginalized communities, young citizens of the country have joined a courageous nationwide struggle.
This is not merely a fight for a change of government or officials, it is a struggle against a system that prioritizes corporate interests over the rights and welfare of the people. That is why this movement carries immense significance.
To strengthen this struggle, AIDSO's Central Council is conducting a nationwide campaign from 3 to 15 October under the slogans “NO VOTE UNDER SIR” and “NO VOTE UNDER GYANESH KUMAR,” along with other demands concerning students and democratic rights.
A massive public mobilization has been called in Delhi on 10 October by various democratic organizations. As part of this broader movement, AIDSO appeals to all democracy-loving people across the country to participate actively and strengthen the struggle to defend democratic rights of every walks of people.”
