Mostly, the allotment of plots on freehold basis was carried out prior to year 1973 and after Chandigarh Leasehold of Sites and Building Rules, 1973 came into existence and allotment or auction of the sites were made as per this Rule. residential, commercial and industrial were being auctioned or allotted on 99 years leasehold basis. However, from 2001 residential plots are being sold by auction on freehold basis.
