APCSU STRONGLY CONDEMNS MISLEADING PUBLICATION BY
APCSU strongly condemns the publication by Arunachal Today stating that “Chakma people attacked AAPSU members allegedly with Machete (Dao), Knife, Stone" during the SIR verification process at Bordumsa.
Such a serious allegation should not be published as an established fact without proper verification or evidence. A media house must remain neutral and report as a journalist not act as a judge. APCSU categorically rejects any attempt to collectively blame the Chakma community for acts that have not been established through a lawful investigation.
During the incident, Chakma community leaders were visibly engaged in controlling the situation, restraining people and preventing further escalation, rather than instigating violence. Any individual allegations must be established against specific persons on the basis of evidence not attributed to an entire community.
APCSU urges Arunachal Today to immediately correct the misleading report, publish the Chakma side of the story. We express our sincere sympathy and solidarity with all those injured. Our concern is only against unverified attribution of the incident to the entire Chakma community.
Media organisations have a responsibility to follow journalistic ethics, verify facts and present both sides, particularly in a sensitive communal situation. APCSU/Chakma Community Based Organization reserves the right to pursue appropriate civil and criminal remedies, as permissible under law, against any publication found to be false, defamatory or deliberately misleading.
APCSU/Chakma Community Based Organization also reserves the right to approach the Press Council of India and the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, regarding violations of applicable journalistic standards.
Be a journalist, not a judge. Report facts, verify before publishing, and do not turn a sensitive situation into communal propaganda.
