RuTAG, IIT Madras

On 29th August 2022, RuTAG, IIT Madras jointly with PALS and TNRTP Erode ("Vaazhndu Kattuvom"), has organized a field visit to Hasanur village, Thalavadi Block. The visit is being coordinated by Mr. Dhamodaran, DEO "Vaazhndhu Kaattuvom" Project of TN Government. The programme has been started with a visit to Lantana Camara processing/furniture-making centres at Hasanur village. This has been followed by a brainstorming session at KVK premises, Thalavadi. RuTAG team, Faculty Members from Engineering colleges identified through PALS, local government/ panchayat bodies, and NGOs have taken part in the event. The technology needs relating to agriculture and the livelihoods of the local tribal population have been discussed in the event.

On June 25, 2022, A one-day workshop entitled "𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗙𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 - 𝗔𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗻 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻" was organized by RuTAG IITM in collaboration with GloVill foundation and IIT Tirupati with the local farmers, fabricators and local panchayat stakeholders, Engineering college Faculty and students at TR Kandriga village, Vadamalpet Mandal, Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh.

The workshop was organized to uncover local problem statements and technology development in and around Vadamalapet Mandal, AP.

On June 10th 2022, " RightStart " _ An interactive session on Technology & Science was conducted by RuTAG, IITM with 100 AASHA school Teachers on teaching science concepts to the students by explaining basic science and geometry behind the Machines around us.

On April 28th 2022, New Zealand Minister Hon Priyanca Radhakrishnan for Youth and Associate Minister for Social Development and Employment visited the IITM to strengthen the ties between New Zealand and IITM. As part of their visit, Vending carts from RuTAG are presented as social innovation projects.

Our RuTAG team visited the "Rural Technology Centre’s" at Seethenchery and Kanakammachatram in Tiruvallur District and had interactions with local fabricators and farmers as well to collect problem statements relating to their technology needs.

"PALS-RUTAG Proposal writing workshop"

On March 2nd and 3rd, 2022, the proposal writing workshops for faculty from Engineering and Technology institutions across Tamil Nadu were conducted along with PALS and 28 colleges participated across the state. The two days virtual workshop covered topics such as 'Projects conceptualization', 'Literature surveys', 'Field studies & Surveys' and 'Project Planning & Costing'.

As part of a national mission on ‘Smart Multi-Purpose Vending Cart’ through ‘Ministry of Panchayati Raj’, RuTAG at IIT Madras has involved in the development of three variants of vending cart under the guidance of Prof. Rajiv Sharma (Dept of Ocean Engg, IIT Madras), Prof. G. Venkatarathnam (Dept of Mechanical Engg, IIT Madras) and Prof. Abdus Samad (Dept. of Ocean Engg, IIT Madras). This national mission is enabled through a project funded by DST titled ‘Design & Development of retrofit solutions for fruits and vegetables vending carts’.

"Problems and solutions in Khadi and Village Industries sector" workshop, organized by KKVIB (Kerala Khadi and Village Industries Board) attended Ms. Nalini and Mr. Hisham from RuTAG, IITM at Kerala Institute for Entrepreneurship Development (KIED), Cochin.
