An Open Letter To NaMo, Big B, Tendulkar, Khans, Ambani By Shenaz Treasurywala 06/01/2015

http://corvudigital.com/an-open-letter-to-namo-big-b-tendulkar-khans-ambani-by-shenaz-treasurywala/

An Open Letter To NaMo, Big B, Tendulkar, Khans, Ambani By Shenaz Treasurywala Actress Shenaz Treasurywala has written an open letter to PM Narendra Modi, Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, and Anil Ambani appealing against r**es in India.

Here is the letter

Dear Narendra Modi, Amitabh Bachchan, Sachin Tendulkar, Shahrukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan and Anil Ambani,

I am writing to YOU specifically because you are the most powerful and influential MEN in our country.

I am writing to you as a woman who grew up in a middle class family in Mumbai.

I am writing to YOU for HELP!

My parents may not like me saying this. I apologize to them if they are reading but this is NOT MY SHAME. It’s THIER SHAME.

My first experience with the opposite s*x, was when I was just 13 and groped by a man (never saw his face but will never forget his hand) while walking in the vegetable market with my mom. She had just given me the worst haircut and as an angry teenager I was upset at her and was lagging behind as she walked ahead. I still remember what I was wearing. It was her dress, mustard with flowers and little bow in the front. How I hate that dress! As if, it was the dress’s fault.

I was shocked at first. Speechless. He disappeared. I just stood there. Tears started pouring out of my innocent eyes. I told my mom who went mad screaming in the market but who knew where that man disappeared to. I still remember the dirty feeling I had and the number of times I showered in my grand-mom’s bathroom after. That feeling never went away.

Since then it was non-stop. I would try to articulate this to my parents and while my mom understood, my dad and uncles told me I was imagining it. Maybe they just couldn’t deal with it. CAN YOU?

When I was 15, I started going by train and bus to St. Xaviers’ College. I was groped and touched and from all angles and this was just how I grew up. Not Just Me but MOST INDIAN WOMEN who don’t have the luxury of cars and drivers.

As a teenager I would dream of and still sometimes dream that I had a machine gun and could kill all the men who tried to grope me. A very disturbing dream for a kid, don’t you think?

I got my first assignment as a model in the FYJC and I had to go to screen-tests straight from college. So I had to dress nice, didn’t make it any easier. I specifically remember the time I went for an audition in a red body suit and a black long skirt with slits. It was HELL! I never wore that again. As if it was the dress’s fault.

I developed ways to defend myself, I always carried a bag in front of me, my fist was always clenched, I always turned around every 20 seconds to check who was behind me and a few times I slapped men who touched me, I got slapped back many times too. Sometimes saved by the public, MOST TIMES NOT.

My mom begged me not to pick fights with men who touched me, she was afraid of acid being thrown at me or that somebody someday would hurt me badly. She is STILL AFRAID and today she told me not to take an UBER to my meeting tomorrow. Hell ya. BAN UBER! Make everyone take responsibility for this.

My sister got into Sophia’s college, we were all excited. She went by bus but the first day she came home, she sobbed traumatized. A man had put his hand in her tee-shirt through her sleeve, the entire bus ride. She just froze. She was a kid too and wasn’t equipped to even understand this. I was LIVID. I’m sorry sis for telling the world this, please don’t stop speaking to me. IT’S NOT Our Shame. It’s THEIRS!

One of my friends in college was R***D on the train on her way home in the ladies compartment. She was sick and was going home in the 11:15 break. There was nobody in the first class compartment going back to Bandra at that time, it was a superfast meaning it didn’t stop at most stations. He r***d her and then jumped off after using her scrunchy (hair tie) to wipe himself. She was the only one on the train and had to limp her way back to her home in Bandra, bleeding profusely. She was just 16. This she felt was her shame so she did not say anything to anyone.

BUT IT ISN’T HER SHAME, it’s THEIR SHAME.

My mom accompanied me to Hyderabad on a shoot once. In churi bazaar, a cyclist groped My MOM. My dear respected and lovely MOM.

Sorry Mom, IT’S NOT Our Shame, It’s THEIR SHAME.

Why am I telling you my personal story?

Well first I want all women to Speak Up.

Let’s make this our MOTTO-

It’s not OUR SHAME, it’s THEIR SHAME.

Who are “THEY”?

“THEY” ARE THE MEN IN OUR COUNTRY.

Not just the rapists and the s*xual offenders and gropers but also our Fathers (sorry dad) and Uncles and Brothers and MOVIE STARS AND CRICKETERS AND POLITICIANS for not SAVING US or PROTECTING US by insisting and protesting for the LAWS TO CHANGE and Rapists and Gropers to BE PUNISHED SEVERELY!

Why do we as women have to feel so threatened? WHY has there been no severe action taken? This has gone on for years now. Not just in Delhi but all over our country and yes even in BOMBAY OR MUMBAI OR Whatever the hell you want to call it! It’s NOT SAFE. NO!

My biggest fear ever since I was kid and even today when I walk back home at night from yoga or when I take a rickshaw from a friend’s home is being R***D. I still feel that fear. I am still am on guard. I still fantasize of having that MACHINE GUN.

In the past 4 years I have been living and working half in India and half in New York and let me tell you I have walked the streets of Harlem, the Bronx and Brooklyn (perceived as the most dangerous in NYC) at 3 am after parties in short skirts and felt safer than I feel in Bandra at 10 pm on a quiet road fully covered. WHY??

Let’s talk about Delhi our Capital. I was there 2 days ago and the day of the r**e. I wanted to go out and walk by India Gate and admire our great monuments but could I?! Why??

What good are all your speeches in the US or Japan or AUSTRALIA- NAMO, if no woman can walk freely in the streets even in broad daylight by herself in the CAPITAL OF OUR COUNTRY. Isn’t this a SHAME? SHAME ON YOU SIR.

This is our NO 1 issue. FIX THIS before anything else.

This is a SHAME. And it’s YOUR SHAME. You are now RESPONSIBLE FOR US.

I beg all of you fine gentlemen that I have addressed to help change the LAW.

You are powerful men. I say, SHAME and PUNISH THE Gropers and Sexual offenders severely. KILL THE RAPISTS.

I won’t ask for public castration which is what I want and all the women want because I know this is unrealistic and things move SO DAMN SLOW in our FINE NATION.

All I ask for is the -Death Penalty Please. NOW! QUICK!

If that’s too hard or will take too long then at least LIFE IMPRISONMENT.

Put them away forever.

Why was this man who had r***d twice before out on bail?

And then given a drivers license? YES, BAN UBER TOO. Make everyone responsible.

I’m ready to do anything. I’m not a big enough celeb but you Sachin Tendulkar, Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, Sharukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Anil Ambani SIRS- need to speak up as MEN ( you are the men with the power)

SAVE US!

Please demand the Death Sentence for the Rapists.

NO BAIL. Just Death.

Superstars I beg you, please take a stand. Use your Superstardom and Power and MONEY and save the women of our country. SAVE US!

I urge you to protest or go on a fast or do something DRASTIC so people take notice, the government wakes up and CHANGES the LAW so these men are terrified to touch us.

Death to rapists. No bail. Just death.

Imagine Amitabh Bachchan Sir, Aamir Khan, Salmaan Khan, Sachin Tendulkar, Anil Ambani- if you went on a fast or walked to the Rashrtrapati In Delhi. If you, took this stand and made this YOUR NO 1 issue, how much change there would be?!

Why should we as women feel so unsafe in our motherland?!

Why should we as women be terrified and on guard all the time.

Why was this man out on bail after committed two r**es already ?

Make an Example Of Him.

Any man who even touches a woman should be imprisoned for life.

Be strict, make examples of these men, scare those who dare to touch us.

SCARE THEM BY MAKING AN EXAMPLE OUT OF THEM.

SAVE US, Save your mother, daughter, sister please!

This is NOT OUR SHAME.

THIS IS YOURS.

SHAME ON YOU.

Don’t sleep till you- SAVE YOUR WOMEN!

With all respect,

Shenaz Treasury

Bus falls off Chennai Gemini flyover, over 30 people injured, no casualty reported Bus falls off Chennai Gemini flyover, over 30 people injured, no casualty reported

Chennai, Wednesday, June 27, 2012:

MTC BUS 17-M fell down from Anna salai (mount road) Gemini flyover which is at the center of Chennai and due to this 30 passengers travelling in it have been injured.

Anna salai’s Gemini flyover is one of the most traffic buzzing areas in Chennai city. The bus lost its control over a bend on the flyover but it is not clear whether the driver’s over speeding was the reason for it.

There were about 60 passengers in the bus. No casualty has been reported. All passengers have been taken out of the bus and the injured have been taken to the nearest hospitals. Police say there are no reports of any major injuries, but passengers with the slightest complaint have been taken to hospital and are now under observation.

The bus was travelling from Broadway to Vada Palani. It crashed into the flyover wall, broke through and tumbled down about 12 to 14 feet. The accident happened in the afternoon, which is fortunately not rush traffic hour. So no vehicles were driving down fast where the bus fell and, eyewitnesses say, a catastrophe was averted.

Traffic around the flyover, which is part of an arterial stretch, came to a halt and there were reports of jams and chaos. Vehicles were stranded on either side for some time, but have been diverted now. Traffic on the flyover is now back to normal.

The bus is lying on its side, shattered glass and crowds of people around it. Fire and rescue teams have climbed atop the bus now and are trying to remove the bus. The Gemini flyover is in the middle of Chennai close to the US embassy.

Because people strangling around to watch the incident out of curiosity had caused a huge traffic problem and policemen found it very tough to disperse them and bring things under control.

284, Vanavasam, Page : 284)

CHENNAI SUPER KINGS WORLD RECORD JOURNEY TO THE PLAY OFFS "CHENNAI SUPER KINGS WORLD RECORD JOURNEY TO THE PLAY OFFS"
IPL 5 - "CSK’s World Record Journey to the Play offs"

At one Stage CSK needed 4 out of 4 match win to enter into play offs.
CSK Fought RR, DD and KKR and won three matches but Failed at the fourth match against KXIP.
CSK finished their Engagement with 17 points, but the only good think to be noted with us was the NRR - +0.100.
So then CSK had to Depend on DC and DD. If these two win against RR, KXIP and of the RCB’s match, then only CSK be Qualified for Playoffs.
In the very Next match RCB won against DD and came to the same 17 points as that of CSK. RCB’s NRR was +0.010, Which gave Chennai fans little breath.

And then Unbelievable miracle happened!!
DC First eliminated RR, Then DD eliminated KXIP And Finally RCB too got Eliminated by the Chargers.
And with this win of Chargers, they finally settle at the 2nd last place of the PT and THEY INTURN QUALIFY CSK FOR THE PLAYOFFs!

I would never say that it was The Hard work of CSK to enter into the Playoffs and play the Elimination Match Against MI.. But it was a Chance Given to CSK by DC and RCB..

Its now Upto CSKs Hands to win the IPL Title for the 3rd time..!

Moreover, We all want to do some thing productive by helping the really needy people. The only way we can inculcate good values and livelihood is through education.
Last week, I proposed a new project which got tremendous support from the mentors and other members in the group.

Project details:

REASON: A recent study reveals that the number of school dropouts is increased a lot due to poverty and lack of job opportunities...especially in corporation schools.
In Europe and US, school final is like a graduation. Once a student finishes his/her school final, the student comes out with job oriented vocational skills and such, he is qualified to get a job easily. His/her livelihood is assured. College education is pursued by only those who are really interested in higher education.

Here our school education curriculum is such, even after school final, the student remains ignorant of any job oriented skills or knowledge. This makes it easy for the poverty ridden students to dropout of school and pursue their livelihood and become some underpaid labour. Moreover, it increases the crime rate and anti-social elements.

PROJECT AIM: To teach vocational, job oriented skills like carpentry, electrical works, painting, computer trouble shooting, tailoring, green projects like paper recycling,etc.. to poor students from class 6-10, in Chennai Corporation schools.

This new project needs a lot of planning and ground work.

Age is no bar for volunteers. 16 - 80+ are welcome.

I invite ideas, inputs, and contribution in whatever way from all the volunteers once they fill up the survey form and register their names.

Once the volunteer registration is over, we can have a volunteer orientation in which we can discuss the developments and how to execute this project and come to a collective decision.

Here is the link for volunteer registration. If the link doesnt open with a click, copy& paste the link in your address bar and press 'enter' key.

Compilation of Swami Vivekananda’s quotes – spoonfeeding inspiration 03/01/2015

Compilation of Swami Vivekananda’s quotes – spoonfeeding inspiration Swami Vivekananda is one of the most eminent personalities of India. He was born in Kolkata on 12th of January 1863. His father was Visvanatha Datta and his mother was Bhubaneshwari. His original name was Narendranath.

He attained salvation on July 4, 1902.

Here are few Quotes

"Dedicated to Swami Vivekananda on 150th Birthday Anniversary..."

All differences in this world are of degree, and not of kind, because oneness is the secret of everything.

All the powers in the universe are already ours. It is we who have put our hands before our eyes and cry that it is dark.

As different streams having different sources all mingle their waters in the sea, so different tendencies, various though they appear, crooked or straight, all lead to God.

Condemn none: if you can stretch out a helping hand, do so. If you cannot, fold your hands, bless your brothers, and let them go their own way.

External nature is only internal nature writ large.

GOD is to be worshipped as the one beloved, dearer than everything in this and next life.

If faith in ourselves had been more extensively taught and practiced, I am sure a very large portion of the evils and miseries that we have would have vanished.

If money help a man to do good to others, it is of some value; but if not, it is simply a mass of evil, and the sooner it is got rid of, the better.

In one word, this ideal is that you are divine.

Never think there is anything impossible for the soul. It is the greatest heresy to think so. If there is sin, this is the only sin; to say that you are weak, or others are weak.

Our duty is to encourage every one in his struggle to live up to his own highest idea, and strive at the same time to make the ideal as near as possible to the Truth.

Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life - think of it, dream of it, live on that idea. Let the brain, muscles, nerves, every part of your body, be full of that idea, and just leave every other idea alone. This is the way to success.

That man has reached immortality who is disturbed by nothing material.

The moment I have realized God sitting in the temple of every human body, the moment I stand in reverence before every human being and see God in him - that moment I am free from bo***ge, everything that binds vanishes, and I am free.

The more we come out and do good to others, the more our hearts will be purified, and God will be in them.

The Vedanta recognizes no sin it only recognizes error. And the greatest error, says the Vedanta is to say that you are weak, that you are a sinner, a miserable creature, and that you have no power and you cannot do this and that.

The will is not free - it is a phenomenon bound by cause and effect - but there is something behind the will which is free.

The world is the great gymnasium where we come to make ourselves strong.
Truth can be stated in a thousand different ways, yet each one can be true.

We are what our thoughts have made us; so take care about what you think. Words are secondary. Thoughts live; they travel far.

When an idea exclusively occupies the mind, it is transformed into an actual physical or mental state.

Where can we go to find God if we cannot see Him in our own hearts and in every living being.

You cannot believe in God until you believe in yourself.

You have to grow from the inside out. None can teach you, none can make you spiritual. There is no other teacher but your own soul.

What made ‘WHY THIS KOLAVERI DI’ song so popular 03/01/2015

What made ‘WHY THIS KOLAVERI DI’ song so popular What made 'WHY THIS KOLAVERI DI' song so popular!!!

If you watch TV or surf the net, you would have come across this Kolaveri rage by now. An internet sensation with more than 20 million hits on Youtube (and increasing every minute), it has become the talk of the town right from kids aged 2 yrs to seniors upto 80 yrs dancing to its tunes. With praises receiving from all over the world, this sensation has been cited as the perfect example for viral marketing by IIMs and they plan to include this as a case study in their courses.

Why-This-Kolaveri-Di-Full-Song
What made this song so popular? There are many reasons. Easy lyrics and simple tunes not needing music skills is definitely one of the reasons. A form of style statement by today's generation to protest against bad governance and demand for better governance can be another reason.
But I feel the success of this song can be attributed to a much deeper reason (related to Indian mind) which cannot be explained easily by typical analysts worldwide..

For the past several decades, we Indians have been searching for some identity which does justice to our diversified culture & behavior. In terms of economic conditions, Indians have always been stereotyped as snake charmers in popular movies/magazines of 70s & 80s at international stage. During the recent decades of India's uprising also, the identity has somehow not been very convincing to us because India has been stereotyped as a backend office supporting America's IT and Indian professionals are looked upon as a hard working men who are always on their toes to serve America. Indian professionals have been depicted as religious cow worshippers, sharing the road with cows and so on.

That is for the age group of 18-40 which is one plane in our discussion here.

Kids of age 6-16 dont know about all these things and are on another plane, but they have also made this song popular due to similar reasons. Now I will give you my analysis of how this song appealed to both the planes.

India is the only country in which kids learn 3-4 languages in school at the same time and at home they might have upto 2 languages (maternal and paternal) as mother tongue apart from the ones learnt at school. So, although English is the official language in most of the schools, children end up speaking regional language mixed with English and the resulting wierd language has been given different names in different regions. In Karnataka, we call it Kanglish (Kannada + English), in TN, it is Tanglish (Tamil + English) and so on. When kids grow up interacting in such mixed languages, they have a sense of guilt at some point of time that they dont know any language perfectly. This is not the case with foreigners because they have only 1 language throughout and anybody is bound to become perfect in that case. So our Indian youngsters have not been very proud of their language skills.

It is not something that can be accepted consciously but it has been in sub conscious mind for majority of us that India is still a developing nation acting as slaves to others and the others (Americans/Europeans) are much ahead of us. Coming to the music industry, the young generation has been an ardent follower of western singers who top the charts. The generation of 70s embraced Beatles, Britney in 90s, Justin, Lady Gaga etc recently. But we dont have any in India. The typical bollywood songs are always about the actors running around trees in rain with good music but boring lyrics. i.e Our music industry has not been mature enough to have bands and singles at larger scale. We have bands like Galeej Gurus but they are more like western bands in Indian clothes. Even if there are any, they are have not hit the pulse of the nation yet. There is nothing today which can be said "This is Indian".

Now, here comes Kolaveri to the rescue. By using typical Indian English accent and Tanglish words like Sunnu, Moonu etc and taking it to top charts in youtube which is an international medium, the singer has reinforced a sense of Indianness among youngsters and this in turn has given some assurance to them that there is no need to feel inferior to foreigners. "We are like this only".

There is no need for us to budge down to other countries or try to follow their culture. We have our own culture and we now have an identity of our own. Now, a typical Indian will be seen as a cool guy singing Kolaveri in broken English and still being accepted internationally. This boosts up the morale of the nation and add to the recent victories like World Cup 2011 and victory of democracy (Anna movement), it instills more confidence in today's youth that he also has some say in the society and he cannot be ignored just because he is from a developing nation. He can proudly proclaim himself to be an Indian in the international context. He is no more a call centre executive or a software engineer in a sweatshop but he is now a hip hop guy with his own taste of Indianness and an identity which is acclaimed worldwide. It is this sense of pride of having a new identity, combined with simple lyrics which has created a revolution out of the song.
