Outcome:

📚Over 70,000 books were cleaned, categorized, and arranged in the library.
The library was made ready for reopening to the public.

📚Scouts and Guides learned the values of discipline, cooperation, and community service.

📚The experience taught the importance of teamwork, patience, and respect for books and knowledge.

This service activity at Periya Nagar Library was a meaningful and satisfying experience. It not only helped the library staff but also strengthened our spirit of service. Through this project, we realized that even small efforts can make a big difference in the community

Day 2:
On the second day, all Scouts and Guides assembled early in the morning and continued arranging the remaining books in proper order. Each section of the library was checked carefully to ensure that all books were placed correctly according to their subjects. Misplaced books were identified and shifted to their respective shelves.

Once the arrangement was completed, the teams prepared labels and section tags for each category — such as fiction, history, biography, politics, and economics — to help readers easily locate books.

A few Scouts with computer knowledge assisted the librarian in entering book details into the digital catlog system and printing labels for record maintenance.
After finishing the book arrangement, everyone joined together to clean the library hall, reading area, and surrounding premises. By the end of the day, the entire library was neatly organized and ready for reopening. The librarian, along with local residents, appreciated our Scouts and Guides for their discipline, teamwork, and dedication. The service gave us a deep sense of satisfaction and pride for contributing to a valuable community resource.

Activities Carried Out:
Day 1:

The Scouts and Guides assembled at the library early in the morning.

After a short briefing by the librarian, teams were divided to handle different sections such as fiction, non-fiction, reference, and children’s books. In addition, separate groups were assigned to arrange books on history, biography, storybooks, study materials, politics, and economics. Each team worked carefully to clean, sort, and place the books in their proper sections.

The team began cleaning the shelves, dusting old books, and sorting them according to categories and numbers.

By evening, around half of the library shelves were arranged properly.

The Scouts, Guides, Rovers, and Rangers of the JRD Tata and Priyadarshini Groups carried out a two-day Library Renovation and Book Arrangement Service at the Periyar Nagar Public Library on 18–11–2025 and 19–11–2025, during which they successfully arranged a total of 70,000 books.

The Periyar Nagar Public Library is one of the oldest and most respected libraries in our locality. It serves as a center for knowledge, learning, and community education. The library houses around 70,000 books covering a wide range of subjects including literature, science, history, general knowledge, and children’s education.

Recently, the library building underwent renovation to create a cleaner and more comfortable reading environment for students and the public. After the renovation, the books had to be rearranged and categorized again. To support this effort, our Scouts and Guides volunteered to help the library staff in cleaning, sorting, and organizing the books on the shelves.

The main objective of this service was to assist in the reorganization of books, help restore the library to a clean and functional state, and encourage the habit of reading among the local community by contributing to the reopening of the library.

Priyadarshini Guide Group guides received the Rajyapuraskar Award for the year 2023. It is a proud moment for us. This award is given by the Bharat Scouts and Guides organisation to recognize the achievements of Scouts and Guides.

JRD Tata Scout Group and Priyadarshini Guide Celebrate 156th Gandhi Jayanti at Loco works, Ayanavaram . Chief Guest Shri.Neelakandan, CWM/LW/PER honour the statue presided by Dy.CME,Dy.CEE,WM/C,WM/E, AWM,APE.

Special invitee Ms.Preeti, International Swimmer and Dentist. On this special day wishes our Scout Sri.Mukesh Birthday distributed sweets to all the members in this program. Our Scouts give speech about Gandhiji and Garlanding Gandhi Statue by individual Activity of Sharamdhan cleanliness drive, Tree planting, pasting posters around the premises in this program our Cubs, Scouts, Guides and Scouters participated actively.

Swachhta Hi Seva Campaign

The Swachhta Hi Seva (Cleanliness is Service) Campaign was successfully conducted at Perambur Railway Station on 28.09.2025 at 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM.

The Scouts & Guides walked around the station premises spreading awareness.
Distributed pamphlets on cleanliness.
Gave awareness speeches to the public, highlighting the importance of keeping our surroundings clean.

The event concluded successfully with active involvement and dedication from all participants. It was a proud moment showcasing our commitment to community service and the spirit of “Cleanliness is Everyone’s Place.” 🌍✨
