Established in 1896, The Connemara Public Library at Egmore in Chennai, is one of the four National Depository Libraries which receive a copy of all books, newspapers and periodicals published in India. It also serves as a depository library for the United Nations.It is located in the Government Museum Complex on Pantheon Road, Egmore, which also houses the Government Museum and the National Art Gallery.

Separate restrooms for Transgender people have been constructed in the newly inaugurated Kalaingar Centenary Mofussil Bus Terminus at Kilambakkam in the outskirts of the city. This is a first of its kind initiative for gender inclusivity. The sprawling terminus is expected to reduce traffic congestion in Koyambedu and the roads leading to it.
