Ecotoxicological sampling of the River Mahanadi performed from the upper stretch is continued by Mr. Pawan Kumar Patel, During their study, they have found that lots of anthropogenic activities are creating disturbances in the normal functioning of the river. At many of the sites it was found that there was a direct discharge of village/city's wastewater, sand mining, burning of dead bodies, direct throwing of solid plastic waste, immersion of idols statues, bathing and washing of clothes using shampoos, soaps, detergents,, agricultural runoffs, etc. These all activities are leading towards the deterioration thereby affecting the aquatic life inhabiting.
