Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy (IGNFA) was constituted in the year 1987 by renaming the erstwhile Indian Forest College, which was originally established in 1938 for training senior forest officers. The 24th Sanjay Kumar Singh Memorial Lecture was organised on Sunday at the Hari Singh Auditorium of the Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy (IGNFA), Dehradun, in a solemn event.
Lt. Gen. Gurmit Singh, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, VSM (Retd), Hon’ble Governor of Uttarakhand graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and delivered the Memorial Lecture.
The ceremony formally began with the National Song and National Anthem, setting the tone for a dignified and reflective occasion followed by the ceremonial lamp lighting and floral tributes by the Chief Guest and other dignitaries to Late Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh, IFS, whose life and sacrifice in the line of duty continue to inspire generations of forest officers.
As part of the commemorative proceedings, the Director, IGNFA, Smt Bharati, felicitated the parents of Late Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh by presenting them with a shawl as a mark of deep respect, honour, and collective gratitude for their son’s exemplary service and supreme sacrifice. The gesture was received with heartfelt appreciation and stood as one of the most moving moments of the event. Dr. Ghanshyam Narayan Singh, father of Late Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh shared their reminiscences, recalling his dedication, integrity, and commitment to duty.
On the occasion, five groups of IFS Officer Trainees were felicitated by the Hon’ble Governor of Uttarakhand in recognition of their outstanding performance and achievements during training.
Delivering the Memorial Lecture, the Hon’ble Governor highlighted the critical importance of sustainable forest management, particularly in fragile mountain ecosystems, and underscored the vital role of community participation in conservation initiatives.
He spoke about challenges such as illegal mining, encroachment, forest fires, unsustainable exploitation of natural resources, and human-wildlife conflict, urging young officers to respond with professionalism, innovation, empathy, and moral courage. He also emphasised the values of discipline, patience, balanced decision-making, and selfless service, while calling upon them to uphold the finest traditions of the Indian Forest Service. He said that compiling a book on the sacrifice and dedication of the late Sanjay Singh would be a good step towards learning from his life. He also urged the Forest Department to be more compassionate towards forest-dependent communities and wildlife.
The programme concluded with the National Song and National Anthem. The Memorial Lecture reaffirmed the enduring legacy of Late Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh and the commitment of the National Forest Academy to nurturing officers of impeccable integrity, competence, and compassion dedicated to safeguarding the nation’s forests and natural heritage. He said that preparing a book on the sacrifice and dedication of late Sanjay Singh would be a good step towards learning from his life.
Alongside the Director, IGNFA, the event was attended in large numbers by officials including Shri Ranjan Kumar Mishra, PCCF & HoFF Uttarakhand; Shri Raj Kumar Bajpai, Additional Director, IGNFA; Dr. Bhanudas Pingale, Principal Incharge, CASFoS Dehradun, Heads and officers of Central Govt Institutions at Dehradun, senior officers of the Indian Forest Service of Uttarakhand Forest Department, IFS Probationers of 2025 batch, veteran IFS officers; scientists, researchers and scholars from FRI, FRI (Deemed) University, UPES and Graphic Era University, Faculty members of IGNFA, CASFoS Dehradun, and staff of IGNFA, reflecting the wide respect and collective commitment of the forestry and academic community towards the legacy of Late Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh.

शहीद दिवस के अवसर पर इन्दिरा गाँधी राष्‍ट्रीय वन अकादमी, देहरादून के अधिकारियों और कर्मचारियों ने देश पर अपने प्राणों का उत्‍सर्ग करने वाले शहीदों को नमन किया और उनके सम्‍मान में दो मिनट का मौन रखकर श्रद्धांजलि अर्पित की। इस दौरान एमसीटी ट्रेनिंग के प्रतिभागी आईएफएस अधिकारी भी उपस्थित रहे।

On the occasion of Martyrs' Day, the officers and staff of the Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy, Dehradun, paid homage to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country and observed a two-minute silence in their honor. IFS participants of the MCT training program, were also remain present.

On this proud and auspicious occasion, Smt. Bharati, Director, IGNFA — the first lady Director of the Academy — unfurled the National Flag and inspired the IFS Probationers to renew their dedication to the service of the nation. The celebration also featured a group rendition of the National Song, ‘Vande Mataram’, fostering a spirit of unity and patriotism.
The programme was attended by a healthy number of officers and staff from IGNFA, DFE, and CASFoS, Dehradun, IFS participants from different states reaffirming our collective commitment to uphold the values of the Constitution and the ideals of integrity, responsibility, and excellence that define public service.”

इस अवसर पर अकादमी की प्रथम महिला निदेशक श्रीमती भारती ने राष्ट्रीय ध्वज फहराया और आईएफएस परिवीक्षार्थियों को राष्ट्रसेवा के प्रति समर्पित रहने के लिए प्रेरित किया। कार्यक्रम में राष्‍ट्रगान के साथ-साथ राष्‍ट्रगीत ‘वंदे मातरम्’ का सामूहिक गायन भी हुआ। इस अवसर पर आईजीएनएफए, डीएफई एवं CASFoS देहरादून के अधिकारी एवं कर्मचारी तथा एमसीटी प्रतिभागी IFS अधिकारी उपस्थित रहे।”

30 सितम्बर 2025 को इन्दिरा गाँधी राष्ट्रीय वन अकादमी, देहरादून में एक गरिमामय समारोह के माध्‍यम से डॉ. जगमोहन शर्मा, निदेशक, आईजीएनएफए को उनके सेवानिवृत्ति के अवसर पर भावभीनी विदाई दी गई।
डॉ. जगमोहन शर्मा, भारतीय वन सेवा के 1990 बैच के कर्नाटक कैडर के वरिष्ठ अधिकारी रहे हैं। उन्होंने अपने लंबे और समर्पित सेवाकाल में वानिकी, पर्यावरण संरक्षण एवं वन प्रशासन के क्षेत्र में उल्लेखनीय योगदान दिया है। निदेशक के रूप में उनके नेतृत्व में अकादमी ने प्रशिक्षण, शोध और नवाचार के कई नए आयाम स्थापित किए।
समारोह के आरंभ में अपर निदेशक श्री राज कुमार बाजपेयी द्वारा पुष्‍पमाला से और श्री जी.पी. नरवणे द्वारा पुष्‍पगुच्‍छ से डॉ. शर्मा का स्‍वागत किया गया। सह प्राध्‍यापक श्रीमती अजीता लोंगजम ने अकादमी की ओर से स्‍मृति चिह्न भेंट किया गया।
समारोह में आईजीएनएफए के अपर निदेशक श्री राज कुमार बाजपेयी, अपर प्राध्यापक श्री जी.पी. नरवणे, केंद्रीय अकादमी राज्‍य वन सेवा के प्रधानाचार्य श्री ई. विक्रम, अकादमी के अपर प्राध्‍यापक श्री अमित कुमार, सह प्राध्‍यापक श्रीमती अजीता लोंगजम सहित सहित अकादमी के अन्य अधिकारी और कर्मचारीगण उपस्थित रहे। सभी ने डॉ. शर्मा के साथ अपने अनुभव साझा किए और उनके योगदान की सराहना की।
इस अवसर पर डॉ. शर्मा ने अपने उद्बोधन में अकादमी में बिताए वर्षों की स्मृतियों को साझा किया और सभी सहकर्मियों के सहयोग के लिए धन्यवाद ज्ञापित किया। उन्होंने वर्तमान पीढ़ी को अपना प्रत्‍येक कार्य पूर्ण समर्पण से करने तथा परस्‍पर सहयोग और धैर्य की भावना बनाए रखने का संदेश भी दिया।

On 30th September 2025, a dignified farewell ceremony was organized at the Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy (IGNFA), Dehradun to bid an emotional farewell to Dr. Jagmohan Sharma, Director, IGNFA, on the occasion of his superannuation from the service.
Dr. Jagmohan Sharma is a senior officer of the 1990 batch of the Indian Forest Service, Karnataka cadre. During his long and dedicated service, he made remarkable contributions in the fields of forestry, environmental conservation, and forest administration. Under his leadership as Director, the Academy has achieved new heights in training, research, and innovation.
The ceremony began with a floral garland presented by Additional Director Shri Raj Kumar Bajpai and a bouquet offered by Shri G.P. Naravane to warmly welcome Dr. Sharma. On behalf of the Academy, Associate Professor Smt. Ajeeta Longjam presented a memento to Dr. Sharma as a token of appreciation.
The event was attended by Shri Raj Kumar Bajpai, Additional Director, IGNFA; Shri G.P. Naravane, Associate Professor; Shri E. Vikram, Principal, Central Academy for State Forest Service; Shri Amit Kumar, Additional Professor; Smt. Ajeeta Longjam, Associate Professor; along with other officers and staff members of IGNFA and CASFoS, Dehradun. Many shared their experiences with Dr. Sharma and expressed deep appreciation for his invaluable contributions.
In his address, Dr. Sharma fondly recalled the memories of his years at the Academy and expressed heartfelt gratitude to all his colleagues for their constant support. He also encouraged the present generation to carry out their duties with full dedication and to uphold a spirit of mutual cooperation and patience.

इन्दिरा गाँधी राष्‍ट्रीय वन अकादमी, देहरादून में 2023-25 प्रशिक्षण पाठ्यक्रम के भारतीय वन सेवा परिवीक्षार्थियों का दीक्षांत समारोह 30 जुलाई 2025 को दीक्षांत गृह – FRI में होने जा रहा है। इस अवसर पर मानव अधिकार आयोग के अध्‍यक्ष माननीय न्‍यायमूर्ति वी. रामासुब्रमण्‍यन मुख्‍य अतिथि के रूप में समारोह की शोभा बढ़ाएंगे और परिवीक्षार्थियों को प्रमाणपत्र तथा पदक प्रदान करेंगे।

The Convocation of 2023-25 Course of Indian Forest Service Probationers at the Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy is scheduled on 30.07.2025 at Convocation Hall, FRI. Hon’ble Justice V. Ramasubramanian, Chairperson, National Human Rights Commission will be gracing the occasion as Chief Guest and will award the certificates and prizes to the Probationers.

Visit of Civil Servants from Cambodia on 02.12.2024 at IGNFA which comprised of a delegation of 40 Civil Servants in various senior positions of the Ministry of Tourism, Education, Youth and Sport of the Kingdom of Cambodia. The participants had a very lively and engaging interaction with the Director, IGNFA on issues of natural conservation, mitigation and challenges of pollution and also working towards the common good for our green future of both countries.
