CBI registered an FIR on August 27, 2026, following a recommendation from the Ministry of Home Affairs based on an ED investigation.

The case names US-based organization The Timothy Initiative (TTI) alongside six individuals: Jonathan S. Rajan (India operations head), Ajit Verghese Mathai (India finance head), Micah Mark, Bablu Kurmi, Supreme Joy, and Varghese Chacko. The action was taken under FCRA, the IT Act and BNS.
It's alleged that TTI routed foreign money without mandatory FCRA registration by distributing over 1,000 debit cards issued by US-based Truist Bank. Functionaries systematically withdrew cash at ATMs across multiple states including Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, and Assam in batches of ₹70,000–₹80,000 every few days to evade regulatory detection.

Approximately ₹92.55 crore ($9.99 million) was allegedly transferred between November 2025 and April 2026, on top of roughly ₹44 crore withdrawn between January 2024 and March 2026. Authorities state the funds supported training, preaching, and religious outreach, while the FIR notes allegations that resources were channeled toward activities promoting left-wing extremism in sensitive pockets like Bastar and Dhamtari.
Following search operations, TTI's India web portal was rendered inaccessible and cloud-stored data was allegedly wiped remotely from servers maintained in the US.
