High RPM but Low Cooling? – The Ceiling Fan Marketing Myth

Many ceiling fan brands promote “High RPM” as a sign of better cooling. But in reality, RPM alone does not decide cooling performance.

The real factor that determines how well a fan cools a room is Air Delivery (CMM – Cubic Meter per Minute), which indicates how much air the fan actually moves.

🔹 RPM = How fast the fan rotates
🔹 CMM = How much air the fan pushes

A fan with 420 RPM and 190 CMM may feel less cool than a fan with 370 RPM and 230 CMM, because the second fan moves more air in the room.

Technician Tip:
When selecting a ceiling fan, always check:

✔ Air Delivery – ideally 220 CMM or more
✔ Proper blade size (48–52 inch for most rooms)
✔ Efficient motor technology such as BLDC

Do not rely only on RPM or wattage claims in advertisements.

Remember:

Do you know how to calculate the correct AC size for your room?

A simple rule used by technicians:
📐 1 Sq.Ft = 120 BTU

Example:

Room Size = 12 × 12 = 144 Sq.Ft

Cooling Load Calculation:
144 × 120 = 17,280 BTU

AC Capacity Formula:
AC Ton = Total BTU ÷ 12,000
17,280 ÷ 12,000 = 1.44 Ton

Recommended AC: 1.5 Ton
