82 final-year B.Tech. students from Biotechnology and Bioinformatics, accompanied by faculty members from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, visited the National Institute of Plant Biotechnology (NIPB) on 15 October as part of their All India Study Tour. During the visit, NIPB scientists briefed the students on the ongoing research activities, advanced facilities, and emerging technologies in plant biotechnology. The students also visited the sequencing facility and attended a demonstration, gaining valuable insights into modern sequencing technologies and their applications in agricultural research. The visit provided students with an opportunity to interact with scientists, learn about ongoing research, and understand the importance of plant biotechnology in agriculture.

🌾 महिला किसान दिवस – 15 अक्टूबर 2026 🌾
भारतीय कृषि अनुसंधान संस्थान–राष्ट्रीय पादप जैव प्रौद्योगिकी संस्थान (ICAR-NIPB), नई दिल्ली द्वारा द्वर "एक सोच फाउंडेशन," मथुरा के सहयोग से महिला किसान दिवस मनाया गया। कार्यक्रम में महिला किसानों, स्वयं सहायता समूहों (SHGs) की सदस्याओं एवं महिला उद्यमियों ने सहभागिता की। इस अवसर पर कृषि में महिलाओं की भागीदारी का महत्व, ग्रामीण महिलाओं के लिए आय सृजन के अवसर एवं संभावनाओं पर चर्चा की गई तथा महिला किसानों, SHG सदस्यों और महिला उद्यमियों की सफलता की प्रेरणादायक कहानियाँ साझा की गईं। कार्यक्रम में महिलाओं को कृषि, उद्यमिता एवं आर्थिक विकास के क्षेत्र में आगे बढ़ने के लिए प्रोत्साहित किया गया।

Today, NIPB fondly remembers Prof. Shyam Prakash on his birth anniversary (October 15, 1941 – August 14, 2010) for his dedication, significant contributions to Brassica improvement, and impeccable character.
Professor Shyam Prakash joined the Department of Botany, IARI, in 1963 and worked on Brassica and allied wild species using various breeding, cytogenetic, and biotechnological approaches. He artificially synthesized several sexual and somatic hybrids involving Brassica juncea, B. napus, and other Brassica species using wild relatives. He significantly expanded the genetic base of Brassica spp. He also made substantial contributions to developing several cytoplasmic male sterility (CMS) and fertility restorer lines in B. juncea. He was a Fellow of the Indian National Science Academy (INSA) and the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS). He received several prestigious awards for his distinguished contributions, including the Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Award (1999), conferred by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).

To gain firsthand exposure to research activities, facilities, and technologies in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, B.Tech Biotechnology students from the College of Agriculture, Vellayani, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, visited ICAR-NIPB on 12/10/26. NIPB scientists interacted with the students and explained the institute's ongoing research and teaching activities.
