On Marx’s 208th anniversary, Camera commune film collective is happy to release the trailer of its debut production- “March of the working class”.
As International Workers’ Day approaches, a wave of protests and strikes is spreading across India, beginning with refinery workers in Barauni and Panipat and extending to industrial hubs like Surat. What started as protests over long working hours, increase in wages and workplace safety has now quickly expanded into a broader struggle against wage theft, delayed payments, lack of basic facilities, and everyday intimidation by contractors and management.
With direct interactions with workers, this documentary traces to find a common link between these struggles, the overlapping demands and the challenges ahead to form unions and continuing struggle in the face of state repression. Set against the backdrop of India’s new labour codes introduced in November 2025, the film examines what it takes to forge solidarity in an era of precarious, fragmented employment, where mainstream media silence and state indifference meet workers resilience shared through social media and informal networks and explores how these struggles continue to resonate, inspiring workers across regions to organize and resist.
As part of PSYA’s cultural front, Camera Commune Film Collective is calling on journalists/filmmakers/workers across the country who have on ground footages from the strikes to help document the ongoing struggles. Please reach out on [email protected] for any further queries.
You can submit your footages through the link in bio.
