🌎 New research focus at ICAS:MP: "Theory from the South"
This initiative seeks to generate new concepts, principles, and norms from the traditions, histories, and experiences of southern societies. Philosophy and theory have long been dominated by Western European thinkers, but this initiative challenges that narrative and seeks to move beyond mere critique.
In a recent interview, former directors Martin Fuchs () and Prathama Banerjee () elaborated on the importance and objectives of this initiative.

Die fünfte Wand – eine Einführung 22/07/2024

During her time at ICAS:MP our former fellow, Sonja Hegasy came across journalist Navina Sundaram’s legacy. An outcome of her fellowship is her compelling article "Die fünfte Wand: Eine Einführung," recently published by Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung (bpb). Hegasy delves into the concept of the fifth wall and discovers the work of Navina Sundaram, reflecting the intersections of German-Indian migration and media history.

🌟 We are pleased to introduce ICAS:MP’s new research focus: Thematic Consolidation Group “Constructing Alternative Pasts: (New) Sources and Methods”

It explores the politics of history-making by focusing on the construction of ‘alternative’ historical narratives, beyond official or academic histories, and their relationship with the changing political.
📜 The Group is particularly interested in exploring non-official sources – for example, popular tracts, historical travel guides, photography, the internet, social media, and social science data - to reconstruct the histories of marginalized groups and to rethink the archive.

Publicity and the Political in the Long 20th Century
International Conference
