TN Rural Sanitation

Dr.Manish IAS, Additional Director, Rural Development & Panchayat Raj, presented on the Special Initiatives of the State under Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) in the LightHouse Initiative workshop conducted by DDWS.

Shri.Saravanan, IAS, Additional Director, RD&PR, highlighted the role of Panchayat Presidents in achieving ‘Model Village Panchayat’ by providing SLWM facilities on Saturation approach. He also stressed the importance of ensuring toilet facilities in Institutions & Public places.

As a part of ‘அமிர்தத்துளி’, a 100 day Water Management campaign, Transect Walk and PRA exercise is being conducted in all the districts. This is the preliminary exercise to collect the existing facilities under GWM in Panchayats and also identify the gaps to achieve Saturation.

A one-day Orientation on ‘Model Village Panchayats’ to Panchayat President and Panchayat Secretary has begun at SIRD&PR today. One Panchayat per Block has been selected and today’s participants are from Chengalpattu, Coimbatore, Cuddalore, Dharmapuri and Dindigul districts.

At the Workshop on Best Practices in conducted by and , Shri.Praveen P Nair,IAS, , highlighted the concept of Plastic Buy-Back Policy implemented in the State and also Business models that are run by SHGs and Panchayats.

Let us create and spread awareness on importance of toilet usage that not only promote health and hygiene but also ensure the dignity of an individual.

Lack of Sanitation facilities can be a barrier to individual prosperity and sustainable development. Swachhagrahis and other officials are continuously engaged in creating awareness on usage of toilets by everyone for a healthier community.

In the orientation program on MCC, Shri.Saravanan IAS, Additional Director, underlined the need for rectifying the technical defects in construction of MCCs before bringing it into operation.. A field visit was also arranged to functional MCCs located in Municipalities..
