A workshop to brainstorm and shape IndiaтАЩs National Adaptation Plan on Air Pollution and Health- 2.0 (2027-2031) on 17 August 2026was organised by the Centre for Climate Change and Human Health at National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC)- with technical support from Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) in its conceptualization - was organised today at the Central Seminar Room, NCDC.

The proposed Adaptation Plan would consolidate what has already been initiated under NPCCHH and will reposition the document as a five-year public health strategy that better links air pollution with IndiaтАЩs health burden, SDG commitments, health system needs, and broader development trajectory.

Participants including UN agencies, Clinicians, Academic Institutes, People with lived experiences, Development partners and Think Tanks deliberated on the vision, scope, objectives and interventions that the NAP could include.

On 14th July, 2026, the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), National Programme on Climate Change and Human Health (NPCCHH) successfully organized National Stakeholder Consultative Workshop on Expanding the Water Thematic Area under NPCCHH at NCDC, CSR Hall. This vital convening brought together pioneering government, academic, and development institutions working at the forefront of the water and WASH sectorsтАФincluding CSIR-NEERI, ICMR-NIREH, IISc, IDSP, WASH Institute, WaterAid India, EAII Advisors, TERI, CEEW, UNICEF and WRI India, to align strategies and drive collective public health impact.

The cornerstone of the dayтАЩs discussions was the strategic implementation of the Joint Standard Operating Procedure (SoP) between the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) and the Ministry of Jal Shakti (MoJS) aimed at fostering unified action on water quality monitoring and its direct health outcomes.
Throughout the interactive sessions, participating organizations shared invaluable, practical insights from their respective field operations, highlighting localized challenges and offering robust suggestions for policy integration and SoP implementation.

Looking ahead, the workshop culminated in a powerful, unified commitment from all attending partners to collaborate closely on SoP implementation developing operational framework, reviewing and developing advanced technical documents, impactful IEC materials, comprehensive capacity-building frameworks, and targeted Best practices & research initiatives to safeguard community health against water-borne and climate-induced risks.
