Shaheed Diwas is observed on 23 March. It commemorates the martyrdom of three legendary Indian revolutionaries Shaheed-E-Azam Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev Thapar, and Shivaram Rajguru, who were executed by the British colonial government in 1931. This day is a solemn reminder of their extraordinary courage and their ultimate sacrifice for India’s freedom.

Bhagat Singh, along with his associates Sukhdev and Rajguru, became powerful symbols of resistance against British rule. They believed that freedom required fearless action and a strong spirit of patriotism. In 1928, Rajguru and Bhagat Singh avenged the death of nationalist leader Lala Lajpat Rai by assassinating British officer J.P. Saunders, who was responsible for the brutal lathi charge that led to Rai’s death. Later, Bhagat Singh and Batukeshwar Dutt threw non-lethal bombs in the Central Legislative Assembly to protest oppressive laws, intentionally surrendering to spread their revolutionary message.

After a controversial trial, Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, and Rajguru were hanged on 23 March 1931 in Lahore Jail. Their sacrifice deeply moved the nation and intensified the struggle for independence.

Shaheed Diwas is observed across India through tributes, educational programs, and remembrance ceremonies. It inspires citizens, especially the youth, to uphold values of courage, patriotism, and dedication to justice, honoring the martyrs who gave their lives for the freedom of their country. 🇮🇳
