Raging floodwaters.
A fragile house on the verge of collapse.
A mother and her son waiting to be rescued.

On 28 May 2024, in Maibakhul Village, Imphal East, Manipur, NDRF rescuers faced a challenging mission to save a mother and her son trapped inside a dilapidated house amid severe flooding.

Braving darkness, strong currents and the risk of structural collapse, rescuers used ropes and bamboo supports to reach the stranded family. The son was brought to safety first, followed by his mother, who was unable to move.

During the 11-day Flood Water Rescue operation, three NDRF teams rescued 2,025 people and 14 livestock.

Beyond the numbers, every rescue was a life protected, a family given hope and a reminder that humanity shines brightest in times of crisis.

Project Nirmal

NDRF Wives Welfare Association (NWWA) has partnered with Aditya Birla Education Trust (ABET) to launch ‘Project Nirmal’ - a Pan-India Mental Health & Psychosocial Support initiative for NDRF personnel and their families.

The initiative will provide:
• Mental health awareness & psychological screening
• Individual & group counselling
• Tele-counselling & crisis intervention
• 24/7 multilingual mental health helpline

With hub-based support centres across key regions, Project Nirmal aims to promote emotional well-being, reduce stigma and strengthen the resilience, morale and readiness of NDRF personnel and their families.

A stronger support system for those who stand strong in every disaster.

On 30 July 2024, following the devastating landslide in Wayanad, Kerala, NDRF Rescuers faced the daunting challenge of reaching those trapped in Mundakkai.

When the bridge was washed away,
a large number of people were left stranded across a raging river.

With strong currents making the crossing life-threatening, an NDRF rescuer risked his own life to cross the river and secure a rope - creating a lifeline for those stranded.

This courageous effort resulted in an innovative rescue - a makeshift zipline, created using a rope, a JCB and a banyan tree.

14 critically injured victims were evacuated on stretchers using the zipline and medical assistance reached those stranded across the river.

Before a Bailey Bridge was constructed, 352 people were safely evacuated by NDRF rescuers.

What began as a day of play
soon turned into a desperate fight to save a young life.

In Gaya, Bihar, a three-year-old child accidentally fell into a borewell while playing with friends.

NDRF and SDRF teams were swiftly mobilised, beginning a challenging rescue operation to bring the child back to safety.

After nearly seven hours of relentless rescue efforts, the child was successfully brought out and, following a medical check-up, reunited with his parents.

A rescue that demanded patience, precision and teamwork — and once again showed how every second matters when a life is at risk.

It is also a reminder of the importance of safely covering and securing open borewells, especially in areas where children may be at risk.

When Cyclone Biparjoy approached,
the threat was ominous.
The response had to be focussed and rapid.

Across five States/UTs, NDRF teams were deployed to support administration in undertaking evacuation, rescue, relief & emergency response.

In Gujarat & Rajasthan alone, 1,53,104 people were evacuated as the cyclone threatened communities along its path

Amid challenging conditions, NDRF rescuers also rescued 144 people, while clearing uprooted trees, electric poles; roads to restore access and support relief efforts

Through timely deployment, coordinated action & relentless efforts on the ground, NDRF helped communities stay safe through the storm.

A life at risk.
A powerful river.
And a race against time.

On 19 August 2026, an NDRF team responded to an emergency after a woman reportedly fell into the River Brahmaputra near the Gateway of Guwahati, Assam.

With strong currents, changing flow patterns and backflow conditions making the search challenging, rescuers assessed the river dynamics and extended the search downstream.

Their assessment proved crucial.

The woman was located approximately 2.5 km downstream from the reported point of incident and rescued alive within minutes of the team commencing operations.

She was subsequently handed over to her family in the presence of local Police and provided further medical assistance.

Buried beneath tonnes of concrete.
Trapped in a collapsed building.
Yet, hope was still alive.

On 29 April 2023, a G+2 residential building collapsed in Bhiwandi, Maharashtra, trapping several people beneath the rubble.

Rescuers worked through unstable debris, narrow spaces and constant risk of further collapse.

A faint voice led rescuers to Anita Kori, who was carefully brought out alive. The following morning, after nearly 20 hours under the rubble, Sunil Misal was rescued - on his birthday.

“I was given a second life today.”

Through meticulous search, manual digging, technical equipment and coordinated rescue efforts, five victims were rescued alive and seven deceased victims were respectfully extricated.

When disaster struck, courage took over.
Amid shattered metal and unimaginable chaos,
the mission was clear — **save lives.**

On 2 June 2023, a catastrophic triple train collision occurred at Bahanaga Bazar Railway Station in Balasore, Odisha.

NDRF rescuers responded swiftly, working relentlessly amid mangled wreckage and challenging conditions. Over 200 rescuers worked for more than 40 hours, rescuing many survivors and recovering bodies of the victims with dignity.

On 19 April 2025, NDRF rescuers located 55-year-old Zeenat beneath the rubble in Mustafabad, Delhi.

With every movement carrying a risk of further collapse, rescuers worked carefully - by hand, with patience and precision - to bring her out safely.
