The National Institute of Disaster Management ( ) inaugurated the 𝗠𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗵𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗸 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 being held from 11th to 22nd May, 2026 at Southern Campus, Vijayawada. The programme aims to strengthen institutional capacities and develop a pool of master trainers in the field of Disaster Risk Reduction ( ) and Disaster Management.

𝗜𝗻𝗮𝘂𝗴𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀:

🔸 𝗦𝗵𝗿𝗶 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗸𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗲𝗱𝗶, 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗿 & 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿, delivered the Welcome Address and provided an overview of the course, highlighting its objectives, structure, learning approach, and expected outcomes, and emphasized the importance of developing skilled master trainers to strengthen disaster preparedness and resilience across sectors.

🔸 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗡𝗮𝘃𝗻𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗞𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗿, 𝗡𝗜𝗗𝗠, delivered the Keynote Address emphasizing emerging challenges of climate change, hydro-meteorological hazards, urban risks, and the importance of technology-driven disaster management and capacity building.

🔸 𝗖𝗼𝗹. 𝗣. 𝗦. 𝗥𝗲𝗱𝗱𝘆, 𝗝𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿, 𝗡𝗜𝗗𝗠, delivered the Inaugural Address highlighting disaster governance, preparedness mechanisms, inter-agency coordination, and the critical role of trained master trainers in building resilience.

The programme is expected to significantly strengthen technical knowledge, training skills, and practical understanding of disaster risk reduction, contributing towards building a resilient and disaster-ready India.

The National Institute of Disaster Management ( ), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, inaugurated the 𝟭𝟲𝘁𝗵 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗵𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗸 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 ( ), scheduled from 11th to 22nd May, 2026 at Delhi Campus, under the guidance of 𝗦𝗵𝗿𝗶 𝗠𝗮𝗱𝗵𝘂𝗽 𝗩𝘆𝗮𝘀, 𝗜𝗔𝗦, 𝗘𝘅𝗲𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿, 𝗡𝗜𝗗𝗠. The programme aims to strengthen capacities in disaster risk reduction, preparedness, mitigation, response, recovery, and resilience through knowledge sharing and collaborative learning. The course is being coordinated by 𝗗𝗿. 𝗔𝗷𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗪𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗮, 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗿, 𝗡𝗜𝗗𝗠.

🔸 𝗗𝗿. 𝗔𝗷𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗪𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗮 set the context of the course framework and provided an overview of the key themes and sessions to be covered during the programme.

🔸 𝗦𝗵𝗿𝗶 𝗥𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗞𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗿 𝗥𝗮𝗻𝗮, during the welcome address, highlighted the growing challenges posed by cyclones and other hazards, emphasising that while hazards are natural, disasters are often shaped by human actions and vulnerabilities. He also underlined the importance of ecosystem-based approaches in disaster risk reduction.

🔸 In his inaugural address, 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗔𝗺𝗶𝗿 𝗔𝗹𝗶 𝗞𝗵𝗮𝗻, stressed the importance of skill enhancement, climate change adaptation, effective utilisation of resources, resilient construction practices, recovery planning, and the critical role of early warning systems in disaster management.

The programme reflects NIDM’s continued commitment to building a skilled and resilient disaster management workforce capable of addressing emerging risks and challenges across the country.

, Southern Campus, Vijayawada, successfully organized a 𝗧𝘄𝗼-𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗗𝘆. 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝘁. 𝗼𝗳 𝗧𝗲𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗮 on 09-10 May, 2026. The programme aimed to strengthen the disaster management knowledge and preparedness capacities of administrative officers for effective response and coordination.

The Inaugural Session commenced with the Welcome Address by 𝗦𝗵𝗿𝗶 𝗔𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗷𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗞𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗿, 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗿, 𝗡𝗜𝗗𝗠, followed by the Programme Overview presented by 𝗗𝗿. 𝗚𝘂𝗯𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗮 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗮 𝗦𝗮𝘁𝘆𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘆𝗮𝗻𝗮, 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗿, 𝗡𝗜𝗗𝗠. 𝗖𝗼𝗹. 𝗣.𝗦. 𝗥𝗲𝗱𝗱𝘆, 𝗝𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿, 𝗡𝗜𝗗𝗠, emphasized the role of district administrators in disaster governance and emergency coordination, while 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗡𝗮𝘃𝗻𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗞𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗿, 𝗡𝗜𝗗𝗠, highlighted the importance of institutional preparedness and technology-driven disaster management. 𝗦𝗵𝗿𝗶 𝗞𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗻𝗮 𝗧𝗲𝗷𝗮 𝗠𝘆𝗹𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗽𝘂 𝗜𝗔𝗦, 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿, 𝗣𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗮𝘆𝗮𝘁𝗶 𝗥𝗮𝗷 & 𝗥𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗻𝗱𝗵𝗿𝗮 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗵, shared valuable insights on leadership, crisis management, and administrative decision-making during disasters.

During the valedictory session, 𝗦𝗵𝗿𝗶 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗷𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗵, 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗿, 𝗡𝗜𝗗𝗠, delivered the Welcome Address, while 𝗗𝗿. 𝗚𝘂𝗯𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗮 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗮 𝗦𝗮𝘁𝘆𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘆𝗮𝗻𝗮 presented the course overview & key learnings of the programme. 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗡𝗮𝘃𝗻𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗞𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗿 delivered the Special Address. The National Institute of Disaster Management ( ), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, in collaboration with the 𝗠𝗮𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘀𝗵𝘁𝗿𝗮 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 (𝗠𝗛-𝗦𝗗𝗠𝗔) 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗬𝗮𝘀𝗵𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗼 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗺𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗔𝗱𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 ( ), successfully conducted its first 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲-𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗲-𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗼𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 from 06–08, May 2026 at YASHADA, Pune. The programme was coordinated by 𝗗𝗿. 𝗚𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗮 𝗔𝗴𝗴𝗮𝗿𝘄𝗮𝗹, 𝗦𝗿. 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁, 𝗡𝗜𝗗𝗠, 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗵𝗿𝗶 𝗠𝗮𝗱𝗵𝘂𝗽 𝗩𝘆𝗮𝘀, 𝗜𝗔𝗦, 𝗘𝗗, 𝗡𝗜𝗗𝗠.

About 75 Government officials of Maharashtra's diverse departments, including MH-SDMA, DDMAs, Revenue, Irrigation & Flood Control, Public Works, Police, Fire Services & SDRF participated in the training.

𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀:

🔸Inaugural Session was presided over by Shri Suhas Diwase, IAS, Director General, YASHADA along with Dr. Bhalchandra P. Chavan, IAS, Director, DM Unit, MH-SDMA & Dr. Garima Aggarwal.

🔸Expert sessions by key national agencies viz. on regional rainfall patterns, district-level hazard hotspots and extreme rainfall projections; CWC on flood forecasting and reservoir management & CDAC, Pune on Early Warning Systems & last-mile alert dissemination.

🔸Dr. Garima Aggarwal, NIDM led sessions on pre-monsoon preparedness frameworks, flood vulnerability mapping, critical infrastructure safeguarding, district-level action planning and use of IDRN for resource mapping. Shri. Shreyash Dwivedi facilitated group activities on scenario-based Table Top exercises, included testing SOPs activation, standard reporting protocols & collective decision-making.

🔸Mr. Mahesh Lala Narvekar, Director, Disaster Management, BMC shared frontline insights on resource prioritisation, evacuation planning & relief shelter management.

🔸Field visits to 5th Battalion & Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology - IITM, Pune gave participants a firsthand look at real-time monsoon forecasting systems, weather modelling operations & specialised flood rescue capabilities.

🔸Session on Incident Response System was led by Chowhan Balaji Singh, DRM Expert, covering inter-agency command structures, coordination protocols and practical aspects of flood response in multi-district events.

The training strengthened participants’ operational readiness, inter-agency coordination & preparedness planning capabilities ahead of the 2026 monsoon season.

NIDM, Southern Campus, Vijayawada, successfully organized a 𝟱-𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲 𝗼𝗻 “𝗛𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗪𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗸 𝗥𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻” from 04–08 May, 2026. The programme brought together officials, practitioners, public health professionals, urban planners, and stakeholders from various states and departments to strengthen institutional capacity for heat wave preparedness, mitigation, response, and resilience building in the context of increasing climate-induced extreme heat events.

𝗥𝗲𝗱𝗱𝘆, 𝗝𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿, 𝗡𝗜𝗗𝗠, emphasized Heat Action Plans and coordinated approaches for reducing heat-related risks. The session concluded with remarks by 𝗗𝗿. 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀:
🔹The programme commenced with the Welcome Address and Course Overview delivered by 𝗦𝗵𝗿𝗶 𝗔𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗷𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗞𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗿, 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗿, 𝗡𝗜𝗗𝗠 & 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿, who outlined the objectives and significance of integrating Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) into Gram Panchayat Development Plans (GPDP).

🔹The session commenced with a welcome address by the DG NDRF, followed by a policy presentation by AS (DM), MHA, and an address by the Union Home Secretary outlining national disaster management priorities.

🔹The Subhash Chandra Bose Aapda Prabandhan Puraskar was conferred, recognising outstanding contributions in disaster management and community resilience by Hon'ble Union Minister Shri Jyotiraditya M Scindia.

🔹The Cell Broadcasting Solution was launched, marking a major advancement in real-time, last-mile disaster early warning systems across India.

🔹Launch of the Concept of Disaster and Vulnerability– A handbook for Academicians on Disaster Risk Reduction, prepared by NIDM.

🔹Release of the NDMA Guidelines on Animal Inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction.

🔹The Hon'ble Union Minister Shri Jyotiraditya M Scindia delivered visionary addresses emphasizing technology-driven governance, inter-agency coordination, and community-centric disaster preparedness.

🔹Shri Anuj Sharma, AS (DM) emphasized on strengthening of Early Warning System (EWS) of India though cell broadcasting and SACHET, effective response through Integrated Control Room for Emergency Response, expansion of two NIDM’s campus as well establishment of NDRF academy for advance training facility.
