National Dam Safety Authority successfully conducted a one day national workshop on “Empowering Dam Safety: Interactive Familiarisation with RRSSD & RBSD Digital Platforms” in New Delhi on 27 May 2026 in hybrid mode with participation from stakeholders across the country.

A workshop on “Empowering Dam Safety: Interactive Familiarisation with RRSSD & RBSD Digital Platforms” was organised by the National Dam Safety Authority under the Department of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India, on 27th May 2026 at the Auditorium of the Library Building of Central Water Commission, R.K. Puram, New Delhi. The programme was held in hybrid mode and witnessed participation from dam safety stakeholders and technical experts from across the country.
The workshop saw participation from senior officials of State Dam Safety Organisations (SDSOs), Dam Safety Units (DSUs), dam-owning agencies, Central Water Commission, National Disaster Management Authority, NHPC, SJVN, THDC, NEEPCO, UJVNL, BBMB, experts from C-DAC, and other organisations associated with dam safety and disaster management.
During the inaugural session, the Chairman, Central Water Commission, underlined the crucial role of dams in ensuring water security, supporting economic progress, and enhancing resilience against disasters. On the occasion, Shri V. L. Kantha Rao, Secretary, DoWR, RD & GR, Ministry of Jal Shakti, released the National Register of Specified Dams (NRSD) 2026 and launched the DHARMA (Dam Health and Rehabilitation & Monitoring Application) Mobile App.
The workshop centred on enhancing institutional preparedness and technical capacity in dam safety through interactive sessions on digital platforms developed by the National Dam Safety Authority, particularly Rashtriya Bandh Suraksha Darpan (RBSD) and Rapid Risk Screening of Specified Dams (RRSSD). RBSD was presented as an integrated digital platform for flood-risk awareness, dam-break analysis, and informed decision-making, while RRSSD was demonstrated as a structured framework for rapid risk assessment, identification of vulnerable dams, and prioritisation of detailed investigations through a standardised methodology.
Live demonstrations of the DHARMA Mobile Application were also conducted during the workshop. In addition, technical sessions were organised on alert generation, dissemination, and information flow mechanisms for dam-related incidents, including integration with the CAP–SACHET system of National Disaster Management Authority. Representatives from various States also shared their experiences and best practices related to dam safety initiatives and digital interventions.
The workshop underscored the growing role of digital and technology-driven solutions in enhancing dam safety surveillance, strengthening emergency response systems, and improving overall disaster preparedness in the country. It also reflected the continued commitment of the National Dam Safety Authority towards effective implementation of the Dam Safety Act, 2021 through institutional capacity building, technological innovation, and coordinated dam safety management initiatives.

The Central Water Commission organized a One-Day Workshop on “Total Organic Carbon (TOC)” on 12 May 2026 at the Library Building, CWC, R.K. Puram, New Delhi. The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation from more than 60+ delegates, including experts and representatives from leading Central/State organizations, reputed OEMs of TOC Analyzer across the country.
The programme commenced with an inaugural session featuring opening remarks by Shri Yogesh Paithankar, Member (WP&P), CWC. The welcome address was delivered by Shri D.P. Mathuria, CE (P&DO), CWC, followed by a keynote lecture by Shri Anup Kumar Srivastava, ED (Technical), NMCG.
The workshop featured two technical sessions, namely the Users Organizations Session and the Industry Organization Session, covering key aspects of TOC as an important indicator parameter for assessing for water pollution and water purity.
Experts from CWC, CPCB, NMCG, NIH, CSIR-NPL, CSIR- NEERI, CSMRS and OEMs like Veolia Pvt Ltd, SWAN, Xylem, Analytik Jena, Axis Nano delivered lectures on the application of TOC parameters in various categories of water, including drinking water, wastewater, pharmaceutical water and sewage water.
Technical deliberations and discussions held during the workshop will significantly contribute towards strengthening water quality monitoring systems, analytical capabilities, and scientific collaboration among various organizations working in the water sector.
It was concluded that Total Organic Carbon (TOC) is a globally accepted and reliable water quality parameter that provides rapid and comprehensive assessment of organic pollution in water. As monitoring networks evolve toward data-driven and rapid-response systems, TOC has the potential to complement and, in many cases, strengthen the conventional BOD and COD framework.

with the initiation by the current CEO, PDA the site visit for installation of seismic instruments (MEQ&SMA) in the catchment area of Pancheswar Multipurpose project was undertaken by the team of CWC,CWPRS and PDA.The team carried out survey work and recommended for installation of 4 stations in Nepal and 6 stations in India.

करिकिली पक्षी अभयारण्य लगभग 58.442 हेक्टेयर क्षेत्र में फैली एक आर्द्रभूमि है, जो दो वर्षा-आधारित, गैर-बारहमासी सिंचाई तालाबों से मिलकर बनी है, जहाँ हजारों पक्षी सुरक्षित आश्रय पाते हैं। समुद्र तल से करीब 100 मीटर की ऊँचाई पर स्थित यह रामसर स्थल मुख्यतः समतल है, जहाँ कहीं-कहीं हल्की लहरदार ढलानें इसकी भौगोलिक बनावट को विशिष्ट बनाती हैं। इसके पूर्वी और पश्चिमी किनारों पर फैले कृषि क्षेत्र इस आर्द्रभूमि से गहराई से जुड़े हैं। अंतरराष्ट्रीय स्तर पर भी इस स्थल का महत्व विशेष है—यह मध्य एशियाई प्रवासी पक्षी मार्ग का एक अहम पड़ाव है, जहाँ हर साल दूर-दराज़ से आने वाले पक्षी प्रकृति की इस शरणस्थली में विश्राम पाते हैं।
