Municipal Solid Waste Management - India Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) mainly comprise of waste generated by residents, industries & floating population. Ltd.
The major components are food waste, paper, plastic, rags, metal, glass, demolition and construction debris, small quantities of hazardous waste, such as electric light bulbs, batteries, automotive parts and discarded medicines and chemicals. The increasing pace of urbanization coupled with an increase in per capita waste generation driven by changing urban consumption patterns in view of economic
growth and improved living standards is exerting significant additional pressures on already stretched Municipal Solid Waste Management (MSWM) systems across cities in India. This challenge is further aggravated by the lack of adequate capacity, institutional and financial capabilities, and skilled resources in collection, transportation, processing, and final disposal of MSW. Solid Waste Management is one among the basic essential services provided by the ULB to keep the urban centres clean. However, it is among the most poorly rendered services and the systems applied are unscientific, outdated and inefficient. The population coverage is low and the poor are marginalized. Waste is littered all over the cities leading to insanitary living conditions. Municipal laws governing the ULB’s do not have adequate provisions to deal effectively with ever-growing problem of solid waste management. With rapid urbanization, situation is becoming critical. As per McKinsey Global Institute report, the annual MSW is expected to grow from the current level of 70 million tons to 370 million tons by 2030! FGI India Pvt. in association with Foshan Goodluck International Ltd., China, The Shenzhen Glory Environmental Protection Technology Co. Ltd., China and Instrumentation Ltd., a wholly owned Government of India Enterprise is introducing a state of the art patented technology of automated municipal solid waste segregation and recycling in India. This technology and product is not available in India and FGI will be the first company in India to introduce this technology.
