Shri Sanjay Jaju, Secretary, MDoNER during the launch of the Mission "Senehjori" – Assam Muga Silk USP, at Sanchar Bhawan, New Delhi on 02nd June 2026, elaborated on the implementation framework of the Mission and highlighted Assam's unique advantage as the producer of authentic Muga silk. He highlighted about the GI authentication of Muga Silk and underscored what distinguishes this mission is the operational discipline.

Hon'ble Chief Minister of Assam, Shri Himanta Biswa Sarma during the launch of the Mission Senehjori - Assam Muga Silk USP, appreciated the Ministry of DoNER for conceptualising and supporting the Mission and described it as a landmark initiative for Assam's traditional silk sector. He noted that Muga silk is deeply intertwined with Assam's cultural identity and that the Mission would provide new opportunities for farmers, rearers, weavers, artisans and entrepreneurs while preserving the State's rich heritage.

Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, Hon'ble Minister of State for Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, speaking at the launch of the Mission "Senehjori" – Assam Muga Silk USP, at Sanchar Bhawan, New Delhi, underlined that today we are witnessing the dawn of the Senehjori, which embodies Hon'ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi Ji's transformative mantra of Vocal for Local & Local for Global. He described the launch as a transformative initiative under the guidance of Hon'ble Minister of DoNER and Hon'ble Chief Minister of Assam, that will help establish Assam as a globally recognised centre for premium silk production.

Hon'ble Union Minister, MDoNER, Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, during the launch of Mission Senehjori at Sanchar Bhawan, New Delhi today stated that Mission Senehjori has been conceptualised on the principle of a whole-of-government approach, with convergence across Central Ministries, the Government of Assam, technical institutions and private-sector partners. The Mission, aims to create a globally recognised luxury Muga silk ecosystem, enhance value realisation for producers, and position Assam as a leading destination for silk-based cultural and experiential tourism. He noted that Assam's Muga silk is not merely a textile product but a cultural and civilisational heritage asset of India.

This comprehensive cluster-based initiative is aimed at transforming Assam's unique Muga silk sector into a globally competitive, high-value luxury textile ecosystem. The launch event was also graced by Shri Sanjay Jaju, Secretary, MDoNER; Dr. Ravi Kota, Chief Secretary of Assam; Shri Satinder Kumar Bhalla, Secretary NEC, and other senior officials.
