40 Hour Mediation Training organised by Delhi Dispute Resolution Society(DDRS), Department of Law, Justice & Legislative Affairs, GNCTD

Delhi Dispute Resolution Society (Regd.) under the aegis of Department of Law, Justice & L.A., GNCTD organised its 16th 40 Hour Mediation Training at Delhi Secretariat, I.P. Estate, New Delhi-110002 from 10th to 12th and 17th to 19th May, 2024.

Led by the guidance of Sh. Bharat Parashar, Principal Secretary (L,J&LA)/Chairman (DDRS) as well as Sh. Samar Vishal, Special Secretary(L,J&LA)/ Director (DDRS), the training served as a platform for the 40 participants for fostering a deeper understanding of mediation as an effective means of conflict resolution. Participants, drawn from various walks of life including legal professionals, engaged in interactive sessions, case studies, role plays and practical exercises designed to enhance their mediation skills and techniques.

The inaugural ceremony of the 40 hours mediation training was held on 10th May, 2024. Sh. Naresh Kumar, Chief Secretary (GNCTD)/President Governing Council DDRS was the Chief Guest, Sh. Ashwani Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) and Sh. Ashish Chandra Verma, Principal Secretary (Finance) members Governing Council were the Guests of Honour at the inaugural function. The worthy Chief Secretary, Delhi lauded the efforts of DDRS in resolution of pre-litigation cases through mediation and gave some important suggestions and advice to elevate the functioning of DDRS including exploring the feasibility of opening new mediation centres in the offices of District Magistrates. The Students of Vivekanand Institute of Professional Studies-TC, Delhi (VIPS) showcased a captivating skit on mediation during the inaugural function of the training programme.

Ms. Anuja Saxena and Ms. Iram Majid, esteemed trainers led the sessions of training on all six days, teaching various mediation techniques and tools, focusing on amicable settlement between disputing parties. The trainers also educated the participants on active listening, communication skills and negotiation techniques. The trainees experienced the role and duties of mediators through role play simulations. Interactive sessions between the trainers and the trainees offered a gainful platform for exchange of thoughts.

Esteemed Speakers Hon’ble Ms. Justice Neena Bansal Krishna, Hon’ble Dr. Justice Sudhir Kumar Jain, and Hon’ble Ms. Justice Shalinder Kaur, Judges of High Court of Delhi shared their expertise on the subject and guided the participants through this journey of enlightenment and exploration into the realms of mediation. Their guidance enriched the understanding of the subject and empowered the participants to navigate the complexities of conflict resolution with grace and efficacy.

The programme culminated with the distribution of certificates to the participants.

Delhi Dispute Resolution Society was established in 2009 under the aegis of Department of Law, Justice & Legislative Affairs, GNCTD and has institutionalised mechanism of Alternate Dispute Resolution of pre-litigation disputes through its 10 Mediation Centres across Delhi. Since inception it has conducted sixteen 40 hours trainings programmes on concept and techniques of mediation to about 911 aspirants so far.

Applications are invited from eligible and interested applicants (Advocates, retired officers, retired Civil Servants, retired Judges, public spirited persons and Social Workers) for the upcoming 16th 40 Hours Mediation Training Programme on Techniques & Concepts of Mediation by Delhi Dispute Resolution Society (Reg.), Department of Law, Justice & Legislative Affairs, Government of NCT of Delhi.

The total number of candidates who will be selected for training shall tentatively be 40. An advocate shall be eligible for training only if he has completed 10 years of practice. The experts or other professionals should have at least ten years experience in their respective fields. The selection of candidates for training shall be on the basis of draw of lots followed by interaction to ascertain their suitability for the programme.

The last date of submission of the applications shall be 2nd of May 5 PM after which the link for submission of form shall be deactivated and applications submitted thereafter shall not be entertained.

The tentative dates for the 40 hours mediation training programme are 10th to 12th May 2024 and 17th to 19th May 2024. The venue of the training program shall be the Auditorium(ground floor) of the Delhi Secretariat, I.P. Estate, New Delhi-110002.

The fees for the programme shall be Rs.25,000/- per candidate. Fee once deposited shall not be refundable. The candidates selected for the programme shall be required to deposit the fees with the saving bank account of the Society within three days of communication of selection in the programme.

The prescribed form has to be filled online through the website of the Society or from the page of Delhi Government Mediation and Conciliation Centres.

The applications can also be submitted by the eligible candidates by submitting a duly filled prescribed form available on the link given below. Mere submission of application does not entitle selection for training. The physical application forms shall not be entertained.
