Implementing Effective Regulation and Supervision of Climate-related Financial Risks. Supervisors and policymakers from South and Southeast Asia gathered in Mumbai for the IMF SARTTAC RBI event to share experiences and explore the latest approaches in supervising climate related financial risks, reinforcing regional commitment to stronger climate risk supervision.

SARTTAC in collaboration with CCAMTAC, hosted a regional Emergency Liquidity workshop. 30 officials from central banks and finance ministries across 12 countries explored ELA frameworks, with hands-on haircut calculations and a full ELA simulation.

Strengthening fiscal risk management at the sub-national state level in India. 29 officials from Finance Departments of 8 Indian states participated in SARTTAC’s first Fiscal Risk Management workshop dedicated to Indian states, hosted in Goa. Discussions focused on identifying and managing key fiscal risks, ranging from public sector enterprises, government guarantees and macroeconomic shocks, to PPPs and natural disasters.

Welcoming the Central Bank of Sri Lanka team for a peer-learning visit to SARTTAC. The SARTTAC team was very happy to welcome the Training and Development team from the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) for a visit to gain exposure to SARTTAC’s operations, with the objective of enhancing the facilities at the Training Centre of the CBSL. The visit also provided the opportunity to engage in discussions on training requirements in key areas for Sri Lanka and to further strengthen collaboration for capacity development.

Supporting the compilation of climate change indicators: Officials from SARTTAC member countries participated in SARTTAC new training course on Compiling Climate Change Indicators course. This course focused on strengthening the understanding of the statistical framework for measuring the relationship between climate change and economic activity.

Strengthening collection and arrears management: Revenue administration officials from SARTTAC member countries participated in SARTTAC training course on Collections and Arrears Management. The course covered strategies to achieve high rates of voluntary on-time payment of taxes and effective management of arrears. Participants were exposed to behavioral insights, including appropriate use of digital tools that support early payment and promote action to pay arrears.

Strengthening International Tax Administration in South Asia. SARTTAC delivered a regional workshop focusing on strengthening international tax administration, bringing together senior officials from South Asia. Key international tax compliance risks, emerging global developments, and good administrative practices were discussed. The program combined strategic discussions with hands on application of the IMF’s Framework for International Tax Administration Strengthening (FITAS), supporting tax administrations in diagnosing capacity gaps, prioritizing reforms, and strengthening their institutional approach to international taxation.

Strengthening banking supervision in South-Asia. 33 Bank supervisors from member countries joined SARTTAC’s training on Credit Risk Assessment and IFRS 9 Practice, exploring new approaches in asset quality reviews, credit risk mitigation, ECL models and IFRS 9 change management.
