Ambassador Benedikt Höskuldsson visited Kohinoor Ropes Pvt Ltd in Maharashtra on 28 and 29 April, meeting the teams behind the work at one of India's leading manufacturers of fishing nets and ropes.
The visit comes on the heels of Hampiðjan, an Icelandic global leader in fishing gear and maritime solutions, acquiring a majority stake in Kohinoor Ropes. It was a welcome opportunity to see this Iceland-India partnership in action and to express strong support for the growing ties between our two countries.
This collaboration reflects the spirit of the India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA), which places investment-led growth and employment generation at its core. Hampiðjan's presence in India brings with it technology transfer, enhanced production capabilities, and deeper integration into global value chains.
A new manufacturing facility in Aurangabad is also in the works, one that promises to expand capacity, establish India as a strategic hub for Hampiðjan's global operations, and create meaningful employment opportunities in the region.

The Embassy of Iceland hosted the sixth session of the UNICEF & Nordic+ Embassies Breakfast Series. This session's theme — 'Powering Girls' Future Through Equal Energy Access' — reflects our commitment to working with like-minded partners like , whose mission aligns closely with our own, as part of a shared Nordic+ effort to advance meaningful conversations on issues that matter.
Deputy Chief of Mission Tinna Sveinsdóttir opened the session, highlighting the importance of equal energy access as a transformative force for girls and communities in India, accompanied by a video address from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Iceland on Iceland's policy framework around gender equality and energy access.
The session featured a compelling panel that sparked rich conversations around energy access, community impact, and what Iceland's renewable energy journey means for girls and communities in India. A heartfelt thank you to Ambassador Benedikt Höskuldsson, geothermal energy consultant and community leader from Ladakh Kunzes Dolma, and Chief of Social and Behaviour Change at UNICEF, Dennis Christian for joining us as panellists, moderated by Rachel John, Public Diplomacy and Assistant Trade Officer.
We are pleased that our theme inspired meaningful dialogue across sectors on strengthening outcomes for girls through clean and reliable energy.
And of course, no Icelandic morning is complete without a taste of home — guests were treated to a breakfast spread inspired by Iceland, featuring a Make Your Own Skyr Bowl station and the very popular home baked Hjónabandssæla or Happy Marriage Cake, a traditional Icelandic oat and rhubarb jam cake.

On Earth Day yesterday, Ambassador Benedikt Höskuldsson delivered the keynote lecture at the Jindal School of Environment and Sustainability, O.P. Jindal Global University.
He spoke to students and faculty on climate change, interdisciplinary education, and the responsibility that comes with both.
"Climate change is a systems problem of civilisational scale, and it requires people who can hold together natural science, economics, governance, equity, and politics simultaneously. The integrated training you receive here is not just pedagogically fashionable — it is existentially necessary." said Ambassador Höskuldsson in his speech.
Iceland has long placed sustainability at the heart of its national identity, and engagements such as this reflect our commitment to fostering that conversation with the next generation of environmental leaders.

Monday blues? Not when Iceland looks like this. 🌋
Hverir, a geothermal wonderland in North Iceland, where boiling mud pools, steaming vents, and sulphur springs serve as a daily reminder that the earth is still very much alive.

Geothermal energy, born in Iceland's volcanic landscapes, is now heating facilities for the Indian Army in the high-altitude Himalayas of Himachal Pradesh.
Geotropy has successfully installed an advanced geothermal space heating system, delivering reliable, off-grid, clean energy in some of India's most demanding terrain.
Congratulations to the team at Geotropy on this remarkable achievement. This is Iceland-India cooperation at its most tangible: Icelandic clean energy technology, deployed in service of India's defence and sustainability goals. The India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement was signed to open doors exactly like this one.
