A massive cloud shield stretching from Pakistan across Northwest, Central and East India has become visible in the latest satellite imagery, signalling a sharp increase in pre-monsoon weather activity. The cloud band is associated with an active Western Disturbance and a cyclonic circulation over northern Pakistan and adjoining regions, while moisture from both the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal continues to fuel widespread cloud formation.
Over the next few days, parts of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and adjoining states are likely to witness thunderstorms, lightning, dust storms, gusty winds and scattered rainfall. The active weather pattern is expected to bring significant relief from the intense heatwave conditions that have gripped North India in recent days. Mountain states may also receive moderate to heavy rainfall under the influence of the same system.
While attention remains on the evolving El Niño conditions over the Pacific Ocean, the current weather activity across India is being driven by regional atmospheric systems. For now, the focus remains on the increasing thunderstorm activity and the welcome respite from heat across large parts of the country.
