NSUI Jamia Millia Islamia went to the Delhi High Court challenging the unfair local guardian policy in hostel admissions. The Court has ruled that no outstation student can be denied hostel for want of a local guardian, and parents can request JMI to appoint a staff member as guardian. This judgment marks a significant victory for justice, equal access, and student rights at Jamia.

NSUI and other Student Organizations Protest Against Unconstitutional Waqf Bill at Jamia Millia Islamia
*New Delhi, 4th March 2025* โ The National Studentsโ Union of India (NSUI), along with several other student organizations, organized a large-scale protest at Gate No. 7 of Jamia Millia Islamia around 2 PM today, voicing their strong opposition to the recently introduced Waqf Bill. The demonstration has been widely condemned by students and activists as unconstitutional and unjust.
During the protest, students symbolically burned copies of the Waqf Bill to express their firm rejection of the proposed legislation. Protestors emphasized that the bill violates fundamental rights and poses a serious threat to Indiaโs democratic values and secular fabric.
โWe categorically reject this unconstitutional Waqf Bill and will continue to resist it by all possible means. Today, it is aimed at Muslims, but tomorrow it could be targeted at Christians, Sikhs, or any other marginalized communities,โ stated the NSUI President. The protestors reiterated their unwavering commitment to protecting the rights of all minority communities and ensuring that no law undermines constitutional principles.
NSUI and other student groups vowed to escalate their protests in the coming days. They have called for broader public engagement and urged legal action against the bill. The Vice President of NSUI emphasized, โThis Waqf Bill attacks our Indian Constitution, secularism, and fundamental rights under Articles 14, 25, and 26. It also threatens our rights under Article 29. This bill is a direct assault on our democracy.โ
The organizations made it clear that the struggle would continue until the bill is repealed and the constitutional rights of all citizens are upheld.
03/04/2025
We strongly oppose the Waqf Bill, as it is a blatant attack by the government on the religious rights of Muslims in India. Numerous statutes in the country grant autonomous authority to different communities to manage their religious properties. It is evident that the intent is to systematically marginalize all the minorities. NSUI Jamia firmly condemns this bill and remains committed to resisting it through all possible means.
02/04/2025
We reiterate that the Wakf Bill is unconstitutional as it infringes upon the right to religion. This action goes beyond mere administrative overreach; it is a direct attack on the independence of religious institutions and a clear violation of the constitutional right to govern one's own religious affairs.
