Over two billion people do not have access to clean drinking water, despite its importance to human existence. Clean water should be regarded as a fundamental human necessity. The World Water Day offers an opportunity to commemorate and increase awareness towards this essential resource as well as address climate change, population growth, and mismanagement which further jeopardize water systems.

From conserving water and supporting clean water charities to most importantly, having conversations that push for systemic policy change – every effort counts towards providing clean drinking water to next generations. Together, let’s save and take care of water because the future depends on it.

The day recognizes women's contributions across various fields and is celebrated annually worldwide. In many parts of the world, women are less likely to own land, run a business, or access education. Yet, education remains a powerful tool for achieving financial independence.

Celebrating Unity, Democracy, and Heritage🇮🇳

Every year, on January 26, India celebrates Republic Day, commemorating the day in 1950 when the Indian Constitution came into effect. This day is filled with patriotism and pride, as people across the country unite to honor this significant milestone.

Republic Day holds great importance as it marks the birth of the Indian Republic. Prior to this day, India was a dominion under British rule. The enforcement of the Constitution on January 26, 1950, transformed India into a sovereign, democratic nation, governed by its people. This historic transition emphasized the nation's commitment to democratic values such as justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity—principles that continue to guide India today.

The Indian Army Day is a day to remember the time when the army finally gained its freedom from the British Empire and the power of the army was transferred to India. Field Marshal Kodandera Madappa Cariappa was the person who took over as the first Indian Commander-in-Chief on 15th January 1949.

This day is also celebrated to honor our soldiers who risk their lives to protect our country. We honor the sacrifices and bravery of the army personnel and thank them for their contributions toward national security and defense.
Throughout the different military headquarters, this day is celebrated with parades and marches, where displays of military equipment and technology are conducted, along with some military exercises, cultural dances, and so on.

Every year, Indian Army Day is celebrated with a specific theme. This year's theme is "Samarth Bharat, Saksham Sena," in which the Indian Army will showcase its modern machinery and various warfare tactics at the Cariappa Parade Ground in Delhi.

On January 12, 2025, Team SAMARPAN, the NSS unit of Sri Aurobindo College (Evening), conducted the monthly cleanliness drive at Begumpur Park, Malviya Nagar.

The event took place in two phases:
During the first phase, volunteers got in touch with the residents and explained the importance of community work, i.e. the significance of cleanliness and maintaining personal hygiene.

The second phase involved all volunteers participating, showing teamwork, and making plans to remove plastic waste. They cleaned the park, disposed of waste properly, and segregated it into the designated dustbins around the park.

The initiative underscored the collective power of individual actions and the necessity of personal responsibility for a cleaner environment in the surrounding areas. The volunteers properly separated the waste, and the collection was deposited in a strategic bin, ultimately creating an uplifting aura in the vicinity. This initiative highlighted the power of collective action and underscored the importance of individual responsibility in achieving a cleaner and greener environment.

National Youth Day (Vivekananda Jayanti) is celebrated on 12th January to commemorate the birthday of the 'Hindu monk' Swami Vivekananda. He is also known as a renowned Indian philosopher, spiritual leader, and thinker.

The government of India declared 12th January as "National Youth Day" in 1984. Vivekananda's profound influence on youth and his emphasis on their potential to shape the future of the nation played a major role in deciding Vivekananda's birthday as National Youth Day.

This particular day motivates our youth to showcase their potential and stimulate the power of leadership among them. It encourages people to actively participate in the social, political, and economic growth of the country.

This significant occasion reminds us of the power and importance of nurturing the youth's potential for a bright future.

'Feed the Stray' a NSS-SACE campaign was recently held on the 23rd of December. Amid the ongoing semester exams, the volunteers were asked to send their experience of interacting with and feeding the several stray animals in their localities, in the form of photographs. We saw overwhelming participation and the campaign turned out to be a great success.

Every year on December 25, India celebrates Good Governance Day to honor the birth anniversary of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. This day serves as a reminder to promote transparent, accountable governance.

Vajpayee, born in Gwalior on December 25, 1924, served as Prime Minister three times and introduced key initiatives like Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, and Kisan Credit Card, which helped millions, especially in rural India. In 2014, his birthday was declared Good Governance Day to inspire future generations.

2024: Celebrating Vajpayee’s 100th Birth Anniversary
This year, Prime Minister Modi will lead celebrations, unveiling projects like the Ken-Betwa River Linking and Omkareshwar Floating Solar Project. A commemorative stamp and coin will also be released, and the Atal Gram Sushasan buildings’ foundation will be laid.
