NIDM, under MHA, Govt. of India, hosted a 3-day SBCC training from July 3rd to 5th, 2024, uniting officials and experts from 21 States and UTs. SBCC is critical for disaster preparedness, translating awareness into proactive community actions. It influences attitudes and behaviors, ensuring timely communication throughout all emergency phases—Mitigation, Preparedness, Response, and Recovery—to foster a culture of readiness.

In India, where disasters like earthquakes and floods affect millions, SBCC thus, becomes imperative. The current NIDM and UNICEF's partnership for SBCC shall empower government officials and stakeholders with SBCC skills, integrating it into disaster risk management. They offer a SBCC module and toolkit with behavioural messages for various disasters.

Key focuses include:

🔶 Understanding core SBCC concepts.
🔶 Applying people-centred approaches.
🔶 Utilizing community feedback.
🔶 Identifying communication barriers and enablers.
🔶 Using the SBCC toolkit for effective disaster risk reduction.

Under Shri Rajendra Ratnoo's guidance, NIDM stresses people-centric approaches in SBC and DRR, prioritizing community perspectives. Key aspects include robust community feedback mechanisms for program effectiveness, addressing communication barriers, and utilizing tailored channels.
