🇮🇳 Bridging Grassroots & Digital India | IIT (ISM) Dhanbad

“A career gives you opportunities. Purpose determines the impact you create.” 👏🏻

An enriching interaction with the bright young minds at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad during its Centenary Year on the evolving role of an IAS officer in connecting grassroots realities with technology-enabled governance. 🇮🇳

Drawing from my administrative experiences in rural Tripura, social-sector initiatives, and urban governance across Agartala, Faridabad and Gurugram, we discussed rural development, women’s empowerment, social welfare programmes, Smart City initiatives and crisis management during COVID-19.

We explored how technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) can help address real-world challenges, improve public service delivery and develop practical, citizen-centric solutions.
Equally important is ensuring that AI is used ethically, responsibly and inclusively—with transparency, accountability and human judgement at its core. Technology must empower people, not replace the human understanding essential to good governance. 🇮🇳

One thought I shared with the students was to look beyond “Which career should I choose?” and ask, “What problem do I want to solve?”

As India moves towards Viksit Bharat 2047, the opportunity lies in combining knowledge, innovation and compassion to create meaningful impact for society. 👏🏻

Taking care of your mental well-being is a sign of strength, not weakness. Whether it’s pausing to recharge, opening up to someone you trust, or seeking professional help when needed—every step matters. 🙏🏻

This ‘World Mental Health Day’, let’s break the silence, replace judgment with empathy, and create a world where everyone feels heard, supported and understood. 🌸

🇮🇳 Bridging Grassroots & Digital India | IIT (ISM) Dhanbad

“Technology is the enabler. Leadership is the catalyst. People are the purpose.” 🧡🤍💚

Delighted to interact with the bright young minds at students at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad during its Centenary Year on the theme “Bridging Grassroots & Digital India: Real Experiences of an IAS Officer — Leadership, Technology and the India We Are Building.” 🇮🇳

From sharing my experience of making the govt facilities accessible to tribal communities in Maldapara, a remote village in Ambassa Sub-division Tripura way back in 2010, to discussing Smart City initiatives and digital governance platforms, the interaction reinforced a central lesson from public service: technology delivers its true value when combined with ground-level understanding, empathy and human leadership. 👏🏻

We also explored the Five Cs of Leadership — Courage, Conviction, Consistency, Compassion and Collaboration — and how these values can guide us in solving complex, real-world challenges.

The curiosity and thoughtful questions of the students were encouraging, reflecting a generation ready to combine technical excellence with social responsibility, innovative thinking and a commitment to nation-building.

As India moves towards Viksit Bharat 2047, our collective responsibility is to transform knowledge, technology and innovation to steer meaningful improvements in people’s lives.👏🏻

Just hours before the final summit push on Mount Kilimanjaro, our incredible guides and porters filled the mountains with music, laughter and positive energy.
We sang, danced and celebrated together — turning nervous anticipation into pure joy and togetherness. 🌈

And along the way, three beautiful Swahili expressions became part of our journey:

✨ Hakuna Matata — No worries!
🏔️ Pole Pole — Slowly, slowly!
🔥 One Team, One Dream, Non-Stop to the Top! — Our shared spirit and determination!

🏔️ DAY 7 — KARANGA TO BARAFU | THE NIGHT BEFORE THE CLIMB

📍 Barafu Camp | 4,673 metres

Today, we reached Barafu Camp — the final base camp before the summit push.

We arrived around noon. After days of climbing, ascending and descending through changing landscapes, we were finally at the point from where the final ascent would begin.

A little rest. An early dinner. The final briefing. Gear checks.

Throughout the trek, our guides kept reminding us — “Pole Pole” — slowly, slowly.
Find your pace. Conserve your energy. Keep moving forward, one step at a time. 🙏🏻

At around 11 PM, we had to begin the summit push — climbing through the darkness and freezing temperatures.

The body is tired. The mind is focused. The heart is filled with hope, determination and prayers. 🧡🙏🏻

Pole Pole. One step at a time. One climb at a time. 🧡🏔️

Some of the biggest climbs begin in silence, long before the world wakes up.

हर हर महादेव! 🙏🔱
