Report on Meditation and Zumba Programme under the 10th Foundation Day Lecture Series and NSS Special Camp Programme, SGSC Chakung
A meditation and Zumba programme titled “Meditation Session and Zumba for Health and Well-being for Our Young Minds” was successfully organized at Sikkim Government Science College , Chakung(SGSC), as part of the 10th Foundation Day Lecture Series and the NSS Special Camp Programme. The programme was organized by the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) in collaboration with the NCC, Health and Wellbeing Cell, and NSS Unit, SGSC Chakung, with the objective of promoting physical fitness, mental wellness, and holistic development among students.
The programme witnessed the presence of the Principal, the Vice Principal, Dean of Students’ Affairs, Heads of various Departments, teaching and non-teaching faculty members, along with NSS volunteers and NCC cadets and students of the college.
The programme began with a welcome address delivered by the NSS Programme Officer, Mr. Jiwan S***a, Head of the Department of Physics, who emphasized the importance of maintaining a balance between academic responsibilities and personal wellbeing. He highlighted the role of NSS activities in shaping disciplined, socially responsible, and health-conscious individuals.
The first session of the programme consisted of an Anapana meditation session conducted by the Principal, Dr. I.M. Upreti, who guided participants through mindful breathing practices aimed at enhancing concentration, emotional stability, and inner calmness. She stressed the importance of mental health in academic performance and encouraged students to adopt meditation as a regular practice to manage stress and improve focus. The session created a peaceful and reflective atmosphere, allowing participants to experience relaxation and mindfulness.
The programme then moved into the second session, an energetic Zumba activity conducted by NSS volunteers Anjali S***a, Serima S***a Limbu, Edden Gurung, and Soviksha Rai, along with NCC Cadet Prasansha Thapa Manger. The session witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members, promoting physical fitness, teamwork, and active engagement while reinforcing the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
The final session was conducted by the NSS Programme Officer, Mr. Jiwan S***a, who delivered a presentation on the topic, “How National Service Scheme can play an integral role to achieve the goal of Holistic Development of Learner (Student) as per NEP 2020.” During the presentation, he elaborated on the objectives of NSS and explained how community engagement, leadership development, social responsibility, and experiential learning contribute to the holistic development envisioned under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The programme concluded successfully with active participation from all attendees, reinforcing the importance of health, wellbeing, and balanced growth for young minds.

Report on State Level Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament 2026
The State Level Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament 2026 was held on 26th March 2026 at SC Bhawan, Development Area, Gangtok organised by MyBharat Sikkim under the aegis of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt. Of India in collaboration with NSS Sikkim and Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, Govt. Of Sikkim. The programme aimed to promote democratic values, leadership skills, and awareness of parliamentary procedures among youth.
The event commenced with the assembly of participants followed by the arrival of dignitaries. The programme was graced by Shri S.B. S***a, Shri Tshering Palden Bhutia (Chairman, State Youth Development Board, Government of Sikkim), the Chairman of Sikkim State SC Welfare Board, Mrs. Lalita Chettri , the State Nodal Officer NSS Sikkim, the President of All Sikkim SC Welfare Association, along with other distinguished guests. The session was evaluated by a jury panel appointed by the organizing committee.
The inaugural ceremony included the welcome of guests, addresses by dignitaries, an opening song, and the formal declaration of the House open. The Youth Parliament session then followed, where participants deliberated on the topic “Union Budget 2026: Strengthening the Indian Youth’s Path Towards Viksit Bharat 2047.” Participants delivered speeches and actively engaged in parliamentary-style discussions reflecting policy awareness and democratic participation.
A total of five representatives selected from each districts during the district-level round, competed in the competition, out of which the top three participants were chosen to represent the State of Sikkim at the national level.
We, Yangkeela Sherpa and Prabal Chettri from SGSC Chakung had participated in the state-level competition representing Soreng District. Although, we were not selected for the next level, the programme provided valuable exposure and significantly enhanced our understanding of parliamentary functioning, public speaking, and civic responsibility.
The programme concluded with closing remarks, declaration of results wherein Mr. Anup Chettri from Soreng District secured 1st Position in State Level Youth Parliament , vote of thanks, and the national anthem.

REPORT ON 9th NORTH EAST YOUTH FESTIVAL, 2026
Date: 17th-22nd March 2026
Venue: Chomoukedima, Nagaland
NSS volunteers from Sikkim Government Science College, Chakung, and Sikkim Government B.Ed College, Soreng, participated in the 9th North East Youth Festival, showcasing the rich cultural and linguistic diversity of North Eastern states. The festival fostered cultural exchange and unity among youths.
The volunteers actively engaged in the Youth Convention/Suvichar scheduled from 19/03/2026 to 20/03/2026, organised by the Regional Directorate of NSS, Guwahati in collaboration with the Department of Youth Resources & Sports, Government of Nagaland.
We extend sincere gratitude to NSS Cell, Department of Sports & Youth Affairs, Government of Sikkim for the opportunity to be part of historic 9th North East Youth Festival and to Regional Directorate of NSS Guwahati, Department of Youth Resources & Sports, Government of Nagaland for their warm hospitality and support.

9th North East Youth Festival, 2026, Chumoukedima, Nagaland.
The Life skill programme, Day 1: 8 NSS volunteers from Sikkim Government Science, Chakung and Sikkim Government B.ED College, Soreng representing Sikkim actively participated in the Seminar, Youth Convention & Suvichar held in the Hall 1994 of Testso college on 19th of March 2026 . The inaugural session of the convention was started on 10 :00 am and was chaired by Shri Shiv Ratan, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Govt. Of India, also attended by Regional Director, NSS Guwahati, dignitaries , distinguished guests and Program Officers along with 200 NSS volunteers from 26 states of the country.
The inaugural session was followed by technical session wherein two renowned speakers addressed the NSS volunteers.
Initially, Shri Sunil Kumar Basumatary ( motivational speaker ), spoke on Youth Leadership Development and Success Principles igniting young minds .
Subsequently, the hall was filled with inspiring story of Shri Thejasevi Putsure, a prominent young entrepreneur and marketing stratergist from Nagaland known for co - founding "Premium Naga Organic" and advocating for local entrepreneurship .

REPORT ON CLEANLINESS DRIVE
Date: 26th February 2026 (Thursday)
Student Representative Council (SRC) in collaboration with the National Service Scheme (NSS), Sikkim Government Science College, Chakung, Soreng organised cleanliness drive at college premises with the primary objective of promoting hygiene, environmental awareness, and a sense of responsibility among the students of the college.
Participants actively cleaned various areas of the college campus including:
- Academic blocks
- Washrooms
- Auditorium
- Other surrounding areas
The NSS volunteers and SRC members worked together with dedication and enthusiasm to ensure the campus environment remained clean and well‑maintained.
The initiative received active participation and wholehearted support from the respected Principal, Dr. Iytta M. Upreti, along with non‑teaching staff members. Their involvement greatly motivated the students, fostering the spirit of teamwork and unity throughout the activity.
The cleanliness drive was successfully executed with enthusiasm and dedication by all participants. The initiative not only enhanced the physical environment of the campus but also instilled a profound sense of responsibility and cooperation among everyone involved.

Unity March Concludes in Soreng District, Sikkim
A grand district level Unity March was successfully organised in Soreng District, Sikkim by MyBharat in collaboration with DAC, Soreng and National Service Scheme(NSS) on November 25, 2025, under the Sardar@150 initiative. The event saw enthusiastic participation from over 204 NSS volunteers from various institutions, including Govt. B Ed College, Soreng, PMShri Sr. Sec. School, Soreng, and Sikkim Government Science College, Chakung.
The march commenced with a flag-off ceremony by Chief Guest Shri P. K. S***a, Honourable Chairman STSC Welfare Board, Government of Sikkim, and Guest of Honour Shri C. M. Sharma, Honourable Advisor, SISCO Bank Government of Sikkim. The dignitaries were accompanied by DC/DM, Soreng District, ASP Soreng District, OSDs of various departments, and other esteemed guests.
The Unity March traversed through the district, culminating at RURBAN Centre cm BAC, Soreng Village. The event witnessed participation from panchayat members, retired army personnel, members of self-help groups, Badminton Association Soreng, NCC cadets, Pipe Band, and NGOs, adding to the festive atmosphere.
The event concluded with captivating cultural performances by NSS volunteers, leaving a lasting impression on the audience.

Report on Mock Disaster Management Drill
Date:17 November,2025
Venue: Soreng
Today, a mock disaster management drill was conducted at Soreng under the aegis of District Administrative Centre, Soreng District, Sikkim in coordination with the concerned departments. A total of seven NSS volunteers of Sikkim Government Science College , Chakung , who had previously completed the Disaster Management Training at Indian Himalayan Institute of Adventure & Eco Tourism, Chemey, Namchi District under the scheme Yuva Aapda Mitra actively participated in the drill.
Out of the seven volunteers:
Two volunteers were assigned to the District Administrative Centre (DAC), Soreng to take part in the Building Collapse Rescue operation.
In the mock drill the essential techniques of structural search, victim extraction, and safe evacuation procedures were demonstrated.
The remaining five volunteers were deployed to the old BAC to participate in the Fire Breakout Rescue Drill. The mock drill included practicing fire suppression basics, casualty handling, and coordinated emergency response.
All volunteers performed efficiently, followed instructions responsibly, and gained valuable hands-on experience that strengthened their disaster response skills
